On the tennis side, both Gauff and Badosa kicked off their grass-court seasons at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. The World No. 2 entered the WTA 500 tournament as the second seed and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a bye in the first. She faced qualifier Wang Xinyu in her opening match and was defeated with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3.

On the other hand, Badosa, seeded eighth in Berlin, had a more successful start. She secured victories over wild card Eva Lys, winning 6-1, 6-3, and then overcame Emma Navarro 7-6(2), 6-3 in the first and second rounds, respectively.

However, the Spaniard’s run came to an end in the quarterfinals against the eventual runner-up, Wang. After losing the first set 1-6, Badosa was forced to retire from the match due to a back injury.

Both Gauff and Badosa are currently in London for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, scheduled to take place from Jun. 30 to Jul. 13 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.

Who Will Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa Face at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships 1R?

Gauff is seeded second at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships and will begin her campaign against Dayana Yastremska in the first round. The two have faced each other three times on the WTA Tour, with Gauff emerging victorious in all encounters.

Their most recent match-up was in the second round of the 2025 Madrid Open, where the two-time Grand Slam champion triumphed with a scoreline of 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. The winner of the first-round match between Gauff and Yastremska will advance to face either Victoria Azarenka or qualifier Anastasia Zakharova in the second round.

Meanwhile, Badosa, seeded ninth at Wimbledon, will take on Katie Boulter in her opening match. The two players have faced each other only once in the WTA Tour, in the first round of the 2024 French Open, which the Spaniard won 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The winner of the first round match between Badosa and Boulter in the grass-court Grand Slam will advance to face either Greet Minnen or Olivia Gadecki in the second round.
