Following her loss at the 2025 China Open, Coco Gauff revealed that she traveled to Wuhan by train with her team. The World No. 3 was defending her title in Beijing, but her campaign ended in the semifinals.
The 2025 Wuhan Open began on Oct. 6, 2025, and will run until Oct. 12, 2025. The tournament is being held on outdoor hard courts at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center in Wuhan, China.
Coco Gauff Reaches Wuhan After China Open 2025 Campaign
Gauff was seeded second at the China Open and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated Kamilla Rakhimova, the 25th seed, Leylah Fernandez, the 15th seed, Belinda Bencic, and Eva Lys before being eliminated in the semifinals by her compatriot and eventual champion, third seed Amanda Anisimova.
After concluding her campaign in Beijing, Gauff shared a video on social media showing her train journey to Wuhan on a bullet train. The video highlighted the scenery of Wuhan as the train passed through various beautiful fields.
The two-time singles Grand Slam champion described the train ride from Beijing to Wuhan as “pretty.”

Last year at the Wuhan Open, Gauff defeated Viktoriya Tomova, Marta Kostyuk, and Magda Linette before falling to the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semifinals.

Gauff is seeded third at the 2025 Wuhan Open and will begin her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She will face qualifier Moyuka Uchijima in the second round.
Uchijima secured her spot in the main draw of the WTA 1000 hard-court tournament by winning her matches in the qualifying rounds. She triumphed over Alexandra Eala, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the first qualifying round, and then advanced to the main draw by defeating Wang Xiyu 6-4, 6-3 in the second qualifying round.
The Japanese secured her place in the second round of the main draw against Gauff by overcoming Wang Xinyu 6-4, 7-6(3) in the first round.

Gauff and Uchijima have met only once on the WTA Tour, in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, which the two-time Grand Slam champion won with a scoreline of 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).
The winner of the second-round match between Gauff and either Uchijima or Xinyu at the 2025 Wuhan Open will advance to face 14th seed Emma Navarro, Jeļena Ostapenko, wildcard Zhang Shuai, or Sorana Cîrstea in the third round.
