Coco Gauff expressed her gratitude to her family and team after losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the Miami Open final. The reigning French Open champion delivered a resolute performance against the world No. 1 but ultimately fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Looking to win her first Miami Open title, Gauff was in fine form throughout the WTA 1000 tournament. Her 6-1, 6-1 semifinal win over Karolína Muchová was the highlight of her run.
What Coco Gauff Said After Her Miami Open Final Run
Gauff dealt with an arm injury throughout the tournament but battled until the final hurdle. The American came close against Sabalenka, but the challenge proved too much. Afterward, she shared her gratitude for her family, team, and God.
“I’d like to thank God. It’s been a tough couple of weeks for me. But [God] was always pulling me through so I’m grateful to him. I would like to thank my team. With the conversations we had earlier, I don’t think this was the result we were expecting,” Gauff said during the post-match presentation.
“Although it sucks to not come out with a bigger trophy today, I had a lot of joy this week, and that’s something that I’m thinking I’m taking away from this the most. I was getting a little emotional on the bench, but not sad tears. I think I’m just having two weeks of gratitude. You guys brought the energy for me every week, every day.”

She also paid tribute to her family for their support throughout her tennis journey.
“My family… some of you drove me to practice, to watch this tournament. So to be able to be here means a lot. And I promise that one day, we’ll get the big one and get to go out in Miami and celebrate.”

The American was a fan favorite in front of her home crowd. She defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto in three sets in the second round, overcame Alycia Parks in the fourth, and battled past Sorana Cîrstea in the round of 16.
Gauff then beat Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals before cruising past Muchová in the semifinals. While the final did not go her way, she capped off her run in her home state with gratitude and another stellar performance.
