Jannik Sinner has earned the admiration of his fellow players and certain legends of the sport with his incredible victory at the 2026 Madrid Open. The Italian broke new ground with his dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alexander Zverev in the final, winning his fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 trophy and improving to a 30-2 win-loss record for the season.
How Coco Gauff, Martina Navratilova, and the Tennis World Reacted to Jannik Sinner’s Victory
After lifting the Madrid Open trophy, which was inspired by Carlos Alcaraz’s serve, Sinner celebrated his groundbreaking triumph on Instagram. Coco Gauff was quick to show her appreciation for the Italian’s success, while Taylor Townsend congratulated the 24-year-old.
“Incredible!” Gauff commented.
“Congrats 🔥👏,” Townsend wrote.

Meanwhile, Martina Navratilova praised Sinner for achieving the difficult feat of etching his name in history.
“Amazing!!! Making history is never easy because usually one only gets one crack at it!” she remarked.

Andre Agassi and Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, asserted that Sinner’s victory was “never in doubt.” In contrast, Boris Becker noted that the high-profile match didn’t live up to expectations, as the world No. 1 sealed his victory in less than an hour.
“Sin City 🌆 cruises 🚢 to 5th straight masters series 🏆 with another dominant 12-3 win vs Zverev, 57 mins light 💡 shoot around was never in doubt
@Tennis @SharkoTennis,” Gilbert posted.
“Wow …. @janniksin beats @AlexZverev in 57min 6:1 6:2 … it wasn’t a match we all were hoping for! @MutuaMadridOpen,” Becker wrote.
Speaking on the Tennis Channel, Steve Johnson expressed his belief that the four-time Grand Slam champion has yet to reach his prime, which he described as a “terrifying” prospect.
“It’s hard to put it into words. It really is. Doing it at such a young age. He’s not 33 years old and has had an entire career you know. He still has not hit his best tennis. I do not think he is close to his prime. That is terrifying,” Johnson said.
Jannik Sinner has now won eight of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events on tour, putting him on the brink of history. At the upcoming Italian Open, which begins on May 6, he will vie to join Novak Djokovic as only the second man to complete the Career Golden Masters.
The world No. 1 will then embark on his quest to complete the career Grand Slam at the French Open. His chances have been bolstered by the withdrawal of two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who was forced to pull out of the clay-court major due to a wrist injury.
