Coco Gauff vs Laura Siegemund Preview: Head-to-Head and Prediction for Wuhan Open 2025

Coco Gauff will face Laura Siegemund in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open.

Coco Gauff will look to make another WTA 1000 semifinal in Wuhan and standing between her and the spot, is Laura Siegemund, who has produced some pretty good performances at times during the 2025 season. The American entered the tournament after suffering a drubbing at the hands of Amanda Anisimova in Beijing.

Gauff started her run in Wuhan with a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima and followed it up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Zhang Shuai in the third round. Siegemund, on the other hand, started her tournament with a victory over Dayana Yastremska after the latter retired due to an injury during the third set.

The German then produced a major upset by defeating fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3. She followed this up by defeating Magdalena Fręch 6-4, 7-6(2) to reach her maiden WTA 1000 singles quarterfinal.

Gauff vs. Siegemund Head-to-Head

The head-to-head between the two is currently locked at 1-1. Their last encounter came in the first round of the 2023 US Open, with Gauff coming back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Gauff vs. Siegemund Prediction

Gauff will enter the match as the heavy favorite to win but considering some of Siegemund’s performances this year, especially in Wimbledon and Wuhan, the German cannot be written off.

The American has won 46 out of 60 points (76.7%) so far at the WTA 1000 event, having served eight aces so far. Her issues with her second serve have been visible prominently throughout this season, and she served six double-faults in her last match. However, she did go her first match in Wuhan without a single double-fault and will look to do the same against Siegemund.

However, her return and hitting will no doubt make things tough for the German. The German’s first-serve numbers have been pretty disappointing so far in Wuhan, having won just 118 out of 201 points (58.7%) on it. She has served ten double-faults compared to just two aces.

One of Siegemund’s strong suits is her net game and along with that, she will look to baffle Gauff with her drop shots and slices. Given the German’s serving frailties along with her own current form, there is a strong chance of Gauff coming out on top without much trouble and booking her place in the semifinals of the Wuhan Open.

Prediction: Gauff to win in straight sets.
