Eala kicked off her preparations for the Wimbledon Championships by cruising past Priscilla Hon, Alina Charaeva, and Mananchaya Sawangkaew in straight sets to reach the semifinals of the Birmingham Open. The top seed then defeated Rebeka Masarova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 before sealing a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Nikola Bartůňková in the final.
Although Eala has yet to win her first tour-level title, her triumph in Birmingham secured her the second WTA 125 trophy of her career, having won the Guadalajara 125 Open last year. Following her win, the 21-year-old emphasized that she remains committed to working hard to earn her place among the tennis greats.
“I am so honoured to be lifting this trophy today. Lifting this trophy does not mean that I will be among the greats yet, so I’m motivated to keep working and I’m grateful for the part that this trophy has played in my journey. This match was incredible; I think it was anyone’s game. It’s one of those days where a little bit of luck and intention was what got me through,” Eala said.
Eala also celebrated her victory on social media, sharing highlights from her time at the event.
“I guess I do end up with that grass title after all🌱,” she captioned her Instagram post.
