Coco Gauff and Iga Świątek share glimpses of their European vacations after recovering from illness ahead of the Italian Open.

Coco Gauff and Iga Świątek are both making the most of their downtime before the 2026 Italian Open, each opting for a different kind of reset. While the American soaked up scenic views in the French Riviera, Świątek tried her hand at a different sport. Both players had time on their hands after their disappointing runs at the Madrid Open, which were marred by illness.

How Coco Gauff and Iga Świątek Are Unwinding Ahead of the Italian Open

Gauff and Świątek both fell victim to the viral illness that swept through the WTA 1000 event in Madrid. The American even threw up during her third-round match against Sorana Cîrstea before losing to Linda Nosková in the following round.

Meanwhile, Świątek was forced to retire against Ann Li in the third round, leaving the court in tears after experiencing dizziness. She later revealed she had been feeling “really bad physically” and shed light on the severity of the illness that hampered her campaign.

However, both players appear to have recovered from the illness and are enjoying a well-earned break before returning to action at the Italian Open. Gauff jetted off to Cannes after her loss in Madrid and relished the scenic views of the French Riviera while dazzling in chic outfits, sharing glimpses of her getaway on Instagram.

“Sweet thing(s),” she wrote.

The 22-year-old caught the attention of Eva Lys, who delivered a sweet compliment.

“Europe looks good on you 🤭,” Lys commented.

Gauff also got into the spirit of the season, captioning her post with, “Euro summer loading….”

Świątek also displayed her off-court adventures in a carousel of images, featuring relaxing beach visits, museum outings, time on the golf course, and a taste of the local cuisine.

“April off the court be like…🏌️‍♀️🌊🐙😎,” she captioned her Instagram post.

With the draw for the Italian Open set to be released on May 4, Gauff and Świątek will turn their focus to their preparations for their final stop before the French Open. The Pole will be eager to regain her dominance at the WTA 1000 event, having won the title three times. Meanwhile, Gauff will be determined to go one step further this year after finishing as the runner-up to Jasmine Paolini in 2025.
