Coco Gauff Emotional As She Sees Her Journey Tribute During Black History Month
Gauff has concluded her Middle East Swing, competing in the Qatar Open, where her title hopes were crushed much earlier by Italian talent Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the round of 32, and in the Dubai Tennis Championship, she faced defeat from Svitolina with a final scoreline of 6-4, 6-7 (13), 6-4 in under 3 hours and 3 minutes.
Her clash against the Ukrainian star also saw her winning her longest tiebreaker in the second set. However, even after tasting defeat, Gauff remained in high spirits, sharing her message through her Instagram post, expressing her appreciation for her fight, “left it all out there yesterday… didn’t get the result I wanted but man that was sm fun. battles like this make it worth it, a lot to learn from. thank you dubai!!”
She was recently given a career tribute by the United States Tennis Association during Black History Month, which celebrates significant individuals in African-American history.
In the video, Gauff highlighted her growth toward her dream and eventual elite status in the sport and expressed profound appreciation for black athletes and icons, including Althea Gibson, the Williams sisters, Naomi Osaka, and Sloane Stephens, who made it possible for her to pursue her dream. Through her Instagram story, she added, “🥹 (holding back tears emoticon.”

Through the video, she added, “That little girl, like, she had the dream, but, I don’t know if she fully believed it. I would tell her, don’t lose the dream. They’re the reason why I have this trophy today, to be honest. They’ve allowed me to believe in this dream. There wasn’t too many just black tennis players dominating the sport, and obviously more came because of their legacy, so it made the dream more believable.”
