Coco Gauff Reacts to Carlos Alcaraz’s Message to Jannik Sinner After Monte-Carlo Masters

Alcaraz was the top seed at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. He defeated Sebastián Báez (6-1, 6-3) in his opening match and then eliminated Tomás Martín Etcheverry, winning (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) in the third round.

In the quarterfinals, the former world No. 1 triumphed over eighth seed Alexander Bublik (6-3, 6-0), and he secured his place in the final by overcoming Valentin Vacherot (6-4, 6-4) in the semifinals. In the championship match, he faced second-seeded Sinner and lost (6-7(5), 3-6), finishing as the runner-up.

Following his loss in the final in Monaco, Alcaraz took to social media and shared a series of pictures of himself with Sinner, posing with their respective runner-up and winner’s trophies. He congratulated the world No. 1 on his victory and praised his “spectacular run” throughout the tournament.

“Congratulations @janniksin and your team for the title, a spectacular run! 🤝🏻 We will continue, there is a long way to go in the clay swing! 🧱 ❤️ Next stop, Barcelona!” Alcaraz captioned his Instagram post.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz will next compete at the 2026 Barcelona Open, scheduled for April 13 to April 19, 2026. The matches will be played on the outdoor clay courts at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona in Spain.

Alcaraz has previously won the ATP 500 clay-court tournament twice: first in 2022, defeating compatriot Pablo Carreño Busta in the final, and then in 2023, defending his title by triumphing over Stefanos Tsitsipas. Last year, he finished as the runner-up to Holger Rune.

This year, the seven-time Grand Slam champion is the top seed at the Barcelona Open, where he will face qualifier Otto Virtanen in the second round after a first-round bye. The Finn earned his spot in the main draw by defeating Aleksandar Vukic (6-3, 6-7(7), 6-4) and Alexandre MĂĽller (6-4, 6-4) in the qualifying rounds.

The winner of the second-round match between Alcaraz and Virtanen at the ATP 500 clay-court event in Spain will advance to face either Tomáš Macháč or Báez in the third round of the tournament.
