The other semifinal will be contested between an Elina Svitolina-led Ukrainian side and last year's champions Italy.

The United Kingdom and the United States have set up a compelling semifinal clash in the Billie Jean King Cup. Why Are Coco Gauff and Emma Raducanu Missing the Billie Jean King Cup?

The United States, led by former World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, named a much stronger team for this year’s tournament after falling in the first round in 2024. However, Gauff, who also chose not to play last year, was omitted from the roster. The decision follows a struggle for the American star since she won her second major title at the French Open, which was followed by early exits at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

Gauff is now working with biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan to respond to these struggles. The collaboration aims to reduce her double faults and improve the overall consistency of her serve.

Meanwhile, Raducanu, the top-ranked British player, decided to skip the team event. Instead, she accepted a wildcard to enter the WTA 500 tournament in Seoul, South Korea. Raducanu explained that she made the “difficult decision” to prioritize getting in sync with her new full-time coach, Francisco Roig.

The Brit told the media, “It was a truly difficult decision. I love the BJK Cup so much, and last year, I gave it my all despite the difficult circumstances. However, the Korea Open was a crucial time for me to get in sync with my new coach, Francis. Even though it was the end of the season, I felt it was more important to work with an experienced coach ahead of the Asian swing.”

The 2021 US Open champion began her campaign in Seoul with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Romanian Jacqueline Cristian. However, her run ended in the second round, where she fell to former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejčíková despite holding three match points.

How Did the United States and the UK Seal Their Semifinal Spots?

The United States advanced after a tense encounter with Elena Rybakina-led Kazakhstan. The tie came down to a decisive doubles match, in which the in-form duo of Taylor Townsend and Jessica Pegula secured a 2-1 victory for their country.

Before that final match, the contest was on a knife-edge. American Emma Navarro kicked things off by saving two match points to edge Yulia Putintseva 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(6). However, Rybakina struck back decisively for Kazakhstan, overpowering world No. 7 Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-1 to level the tie and force the doubles decider.

With the win, the North American side remains on course for a record-extending 19th Billie Jean King Cup crown. Great Britain, which is seeking its first-ever title, cruised past Japan after Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter both won their respective singles matches.

The other semifinal will be contested between an Elina Svitolina-led Ukrainian side and the defending champions, Italy.
