The women’s singles draw at the 2026 Australian Open has been dominated by the USA, with four American women reaching the quarterfinals in Melbourne this year. The quartet of Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, and Iva Jović has played phenomenal tennis so far and will be vying for a semifinal spot.
Coco Gauff Leads American Quartet to the Australian Open Quarterfinals
This is the first time since 2001 that four or more American women have reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. Back then, the group consisted of Lindsay Davenport, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Monica Seles, and Jennifer Capriati, with Capriati winning the title with a win over Martina Hingis in the final.
This time around, Coco Gauff was the top-ranked American player in the women’s draw. She has been in good form, beginning her campaign with straight-set wins over Kamilla Rakhimova and Olga Danilović in the first two rounds, followed by tricky three-set wins over Hailey Baptiste and KarolÃna Muchová.
Amanda Anisimova has carried on her Grand Slam form from last year, which saw her reach successive finals at Wimbledon and at the US Open. She has reached her maiden quarterfinal at the Australian Open without losing a set, winning over the likes of Simona Waltert, Kateřina Siniaková, Peyton Stearns, and Wang Xinyu.
The sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula has been reliable as ever, reaching the quarterfinal without breaking much of a sweat. She won her matches against Anastasia Zakharova, McCartney Kessler, and Oksana Selekhmeteva to reach the fourth round, where she had another easy straight-set win over the ninth-seeded and defending champion, Madison Keys.
However, the surprise of the tournament for the American women has been 29th-seeded Iva Jović, who has reached her maiden quarterfinal at a Slam as an 18-year-old. Her four wins include a top-10 win, as she defeated seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini in the third round, followed by a thrashing of Yulia Putintseva, where the young American lost only one game against the Kazakh in the fourth round.
However, it is Jović who faces the most formidable challenge in the quarterfinals as she has to take on top seed Aryna Sabalenka, and as far as the PFSN Exclusive Simulator is concerned, the Belarusian has a 91% chance of winning the match.
Pegula and Anisimova will play each other in the quarterfinal, which will take out at least one American player before the semifinal. Pegula has had the better of that matchup, leading 3-0 in the head-to-head, but the Simulator has factored in current form and given Anisimova a 53 percent win probability.
Finally, Gauff’s quarterfinal opponent is Elina Svitolina, against whom the American has won two of her three matches, though all have been close contests. However, the third seed is expected to come through as the Simulator has given her a 67% chance of winning.
