Coco Gauff wrapped up her 2025 tennis season with a heartfelt message that captured both her humility and joy for the sport she loves. After bowing out of the WTA Finals in Riyadh during the round-robin stage, the American star took to social media to share a reflective post that looked back on a season filled with triumphs, challenges, and growth.
A Closer Look at Coco Gauff’s WTA Finals Campaign
Gauff’s campaign at the WTA Finals came to a close in the round-robin stage. The American star, who entered the season-ending championship as the defending champion, was drawn into the Stefanie Graf Group, alongside fellow American Jessica Pegula, Italian Jasmine Paolini, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
The event, held on the indoor hard courts of the King Saud University Indoor Arena, brought together the top eight singles and doubles players of the WTA season, each vying for the prestigious year-end title.
Gauff began her group stage with a high-intensity match against her close friend and former doubles partner, Pegula. Despite rallying to take the second set in a tiebreak, Gauff ultimately fell short, losing 3-6, 7-6 (4), 2-6. The defeat put early pressure on the 2023 US Open champion to win her next encounters to stay in contention for the semifinals. She bounced back in her second group match against Paolini, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
In her final round-robin match, Gauff faced World No. 1 Sabalenka in a clash for a semifinal berth. Gauff started strong, matching Sabalenka’s pace throughout the first set, but narrowly lost the tiebreak 6-7 (5). The second set saw Sabalenka take control as Gauff struggled to maintain consistency, eventually losing 2-6. The defeat left Gauff with a 1-2 record in the group, ending her hopes of advancing further in the tournament.
How Did Gauff Reflect on Her Journey After the 2025 Season?
Following her exit from the tournament, Gauff offered fans an inside look at her mindset as she closed the chapter on 2025. Sharing a photo from her French Open victory earlier in the season, the 2023 US Open champion wrote:
“My 2025 season is officially over and it was a longggg one. I played my first match of this season December 29th, 2024 and my last match of the season November 6th, 2025😳. It was filled with some disappointments but mainly positives and when I look back at it, I feel proud of all the things I accomplished.”

Gauff continued by expressing gratitude for the journey and the emotions that come with competing at the highest level: “I love this sport and I am grateful for all of its ups and downs. Very few feelings come close to the euphoria you feel when you are living in a dream come true or a prayer come to fruition and I am eternally grateful to God for these experiences and the opportunity to feel this feeling constantly.”
Gauff ended her reflection with an upbeat and confident note of motivation: “Thank you guys for your love and support, thank you to my family, my friends, my team, and God. Time for a little rest and then back to the grind….see you guys back on court next year, we uppppp😛😏.”
The 21-year-old concluded the season ranked World No. 3 after another strong year featuring multiple titles and deep Grand Slam runs. Gauff’s biggest triumph came at the 2025 French Open, where she won her second Grand Slam singles title. She also reached the finals in Madrid and Rome and later captured the Wuhan Open crown, defeating Pegula 6-4, 7-5.
Finishing the year with a 48-16 singles record and one doubles title in Montreal, Gauff earned approximately $7.27 million in prize money, cementing her place among the WTA’s top earners.
