Former American tennis player turned analyst Christopher Eubanks believes Alexandra Eala’s growing fanfare could fuel an exciting run at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, as the young Filipino star continues to attract unprecedented attention on the WTA Tour.
While Eala has yet to crack the Top 10 or capture a Grand Slam title, her popularity has surged dramatically in recent months. Eubanks suggested that the wave of fan support surrounding her could help unlock even stronger performances, especially as large crowds continue to gather to watch her matches during the early stages of the 2026 season.
Alexandra Eala Builds Momentum With Strong Results in Early 2026
Eala’s rise has been one of the more intriguing storylines in women’s tennis. In early 2026, she climbed to a career-high ranking of world No. 31 following a strong run at the Dubai Championships, where she reached the quarterfinals and upset several higher-ranked opponents. Her growing reputation has translated into massive spectator interest, with fans lining up to watch her play.
At Indian Wells, which runs from Mar. 4-15, Eala entered the singles draw as the No. 31 seed, earning a first-round bye. She is scheduled to face either Dayana Yastremska or Zhang Shuai in the second round.
Speaking during a segment on Tennis Channel, Eubanks highlighted the extraordinary level of attention surrounding Eala and explained why it could work in her favor rather than becoming a distraction. “I think that this fanfare that she’s been getting over the past few months can cause some players to do some incredible things,” Eubanks said.

The panel on the broadcast also talked about the strong backing Eala has been receiving from Filipino fans at Indian Wells. She has been drawing large crowds around the grounds, with supporters gathering wherever she appears.
What Did Christopher Eubanks Say About the Fan Frenzy Surrounding Eala?
Reflecting on the atmosphere during her matches earlier in the season, he added, “We saw it in Australia. There were mobs and lines and lines of people to make it to her side courts. Hopefully we’re able to get her on a big court so everyone is able to stay safe around the grounds, because there’s going to be a large number of fans coming to support.”
Eubanks also pointed out that the court conditions in Indian Wells could work in Eala’s favor. “I think she prefers a bit faster conditions. I talked to some players, and they said the courts are playing a little bit faster this year than in previous years, so we’re going to see if she’s able to kind of find a good mix there,” he added.
“But overall, excited to have her here, excited to see the energy that she brings and her fans bring, because we know we’re going to have some fun atmospheres out here today.”
The 18-year-old is also competing in doubles alongside American rising talent Iva Jovic, with the pair set to meet Jeļena Ostapenko and Hailey Baptiste in their opening match.
