Carlos Alcaraz Still Training in Murcia, As Other Players Assemble at Indian Wells

With the top players arriving in Indian Wells for the Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is still training in Murcia.

Carlos Alcaraz is enjoying one of the best starts to a season in his career after a dominant performance so far this year. The Spaniard is currently the world’s top-ranked player and already has two titles in the 2026 season. After a magnificent week in Doha, the Spaniard is headed to Indian Wells for the Masters 1000 event.

However, despite other top players already assembling in California, the Spaniard is still training on his home ground in Murcia.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Training Sessions and Other Players’ Scheduled Arrival

Alcaraz has shown an otherworldly form this season, going unbeaten in 12 consecutive matches. He entered the Australian Open as the top seed and had only ever reached the final eight in Melbourne. However, this year was the Spaniard’s year as he not only reached the quarterfinals again but also defeated the local favorite, Alex de Minaur, to advance to the semis, then went on to defeat the 10-time champion, Novak Djokovic, to lift his first Australian Open title.

With this win, he completed his career Grand Slam at the age of just 22 years, becoming the youngest man in tennis history to do so, breaking the Open Era record of fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz did not stop there; he then went fishing in Doha before annihilating his opponents on the tennis courts. Dropping only one set in the entire tournament, the Spaniard overcame every obstacle and won his 26th ATP career title, maintaining his unbeaten record.

Now, with the year’s first Masters 1000 event commencing on Wednesday, March 4, top ATP stars are already arriving at the venue. However, the two-time champion is still in his hometown of Murcia, where recent social media footage has captured him practicing on the courts. This shows that the Spaniard is focused on improving his gameplay as much as possible to attain near-perfect on-court skills.

Last year, Alcaraz entered the tournament as the second seed, but his campaign ended in the semifinals after a massive 1-6, 6-0, 4-6 upset at the hands of the British No. 1, Jack Draper. This year, with his determination and practice, he looks forward to making another deep run at the tournament and possibly lifting the title.

Other Top Players Arrive at Indian Wells

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner arrived at Indian Wells for the first time since 2024, where he lost to the eventual champion Alcaraz in the semifinals, marking his consecutive final four finish. Last year, the Italian missed the tournament due to the three-month suspension after testing positive twice for the banned performance-enhancing substance clostebol. He was spotted practicing in Palm Springs, California, hoping to return to his champion form after having a 7-2 record so far this year.

On the women’s side, Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducanu, and Elena Rybakina have touched down in Indian Wells for one of the most prestigious tournaments on the WTA tour. The British No. 1’s best finish at the event is her fourth-round finish in 2023, when she reached the fourth round before losing to the World No. 1 Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek.

Osaka has a strong history with the tournament, having lifted the title in 2018 as an unseeded player. She defeated Maria Sharapova in the first round before defeating World No. 1 Simona Halep in the semifinals. The Japanese player faced the 20th seed Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match to lift her first career title.

Rybakina’s best performance at the tournament was in 2023, when she defeated both World No. 1 ÅšwiÄ…tek and World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka to lift the title. She has defeated the Belarusian, the current top-ranked woman, twice consecutively, first at the WTA Finals and then at the Australian Open championship match, to lift her second Grand Slam title, and appears to be in good form.

With such a star-studded men’s and women’s lineup, intense competition is guaranteed on both sides, making it intriguing to see who emerges as the champion at the “fifth major.”
