Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz recently expressed his thoughts after a disappointing loss to Cameron Norrie of Great Britain at the 2025 Rolex Paris Masters, ending his winning streak.
The world No. 1 reflected on his determination to better prepare for the upcoming major tournaments — the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, and the Davis Cup Final 8 in Bologna, Italy.
How Is Carlos Alcaraz Determined Despite Facing an Early Exit at the Paris Masters?
The 22-year-old entered the Paris Masters after clinching the 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships men’s singles title. During his title run at the ATP 500 event, he overcame Sebastian Baez, Zizou Bergs, Brandon Nakashima, Casper Ruud in the semifinals, and world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the final, 6-4, 6-4.
However, despite coming to Paris after a break, Alcaraz suffered an early loss to Norrie in the second round, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The tournament in the City of Love marks the last ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, with the El Palmar, Murcia, Spain, native competing as one of the top seeds alongside Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and other stars.
During his Rolex Paris Masters post-match press conference, Alcaraz reflected on his resolution to prepare himself better with planning and practice after the loss in Paris. He shared his determination to avoid similar situations and get ready for the upcoming tournaments: the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.
“Well, I don’t know. I will try to prepare myself as (well) as I can, coming to Turin, coming to Davis Cup, really important tournaments that I have ahead right now. Right now I just want to be back home, and let’s see (what I’m) gonna do. But of course, I’m gonna practice and prepare myself, and obviously I will try not to let this thing happen again,” he said (via ASAP Sports)
The 2025 Nitto ATP Finals will be held Nov. 9-16 at Italy’s largest indoor sporting arena, Inalpi Arena. The event will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams. At the Davis Cup Finals, Alcaraz’s Team Spain will face Team Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
During the same press conference, Alcaraz revealed that he came into this year’s Paris Masters with fresher overall health than in past appearances at the Paris La Défense Arena.
“I came here with a lot of energy. I came here thinking that I could do good results because I have been playing really good tennis. Other years I feel exhausted, I feel tired, I feel mentally, physically, but this year I feel good. I will figure it out, and I will end up playing great tennis here, for sure.”
In last year’s tournament, Alcaraz lost in the round of 16 to Ugo Humbert, who later fell to German star Alexander Zverev in the title match.
