How Does Fritz’s Recent Performances Look Like?
Fritz enters the final with tremendous confidence after his impressive performances at the Laver Cup in San Francisco. The American scored his first career victory over a reigning world No. 1 when he defeated Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2 at the team event . Fritz followed that triumph by beating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) to clinch the Laver Cup for Team World.
Fritz’s impressive 2025 season includes winning titles at the Stuttgart Open and Eastbourne International during the grass court season. He reached the Wimbledon semifinals, becoming the first American man to achieve this feat since John Isner in 2018. The 27-year-old has also claimed 47 wins this year, second most on tour this season, trailing only Alcaraz’s 66 victories.
The California native previously conquered Tokyo in 2022, when he defeated compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the final to claim his first ATP 500 title . That victory helped Fritz break into the top 10 for the first time and marked him as the first American champion in Tokyo since Pete Sampras in 1996.
Fritz currently sits at No. 5 in the world rankings and has established himself as the top American player on the ATP tour. It would be interesting to see whether Fritz gets his second consecutive win over Alcaraz, or whether the Spaniard proves why he is the world’s top ranked player.
