Carlos Alcaraz Pays Tribute to Victims of Fatal Train Accident in Spain After Australian Open 2R Win

Alcaraz, who is currently competing in Melbourne at the 2026 Australian Open, took a moment after his second-round match to honor the victims of the train crash in his home country. He extended his “support” by writing a message on the protective glass in front of a camera lens.

“Sending lots of support to those affected by what’s happening in Spain,” Alcaraz wrote on X (translated from Spanish).

Alcaraz is the top seed at the 2026 Australian Open, and he began his campaign by defeating Adam Walton in the first round. He then went on to eliminate Yannick Hanfmann in the next round, advancing to the third round of the Grand Slam tournament.

Who Will Carlos Alcaraz Face at the 2026 Australian Open 3R?

Following his victory over Hanfmann in the second round of the 2026 Australian Open, Alcaraz is set to face Corentin Moutet in the third round of the tournament.

Moutet, who is seeded 32nd at the Melbourne Major, began his campaign by defeating Tristan Schoolkate in the first round.

He secured his spot in the third round against the World No. 1 after his second-round opponent, qualifier Michael Zheng, was forced to retire from their match during the fourth set due to a left thigh injury.

Alcaraz and Moutet have never met on the ATP Tour, making their upcoming third-round match at the 2026 Australian Open a first-time encounter. The winner will advance to face either 14th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or 19th seed Tommy Paul in the fourth round.

In addition to his singles competition at the Melbourne Major, Moutet will also participate in the doubles event. He has partnered with compatriot Luca Sanchez, and they will take on the wild card duo of Alex Bolt and Dane Sweeny in the first round.

The winners of the opening match will face either Sebastián Báez and Francisco Comesaña or the third-seeded team of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the second round.
