Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will look to keep his undefeated record for the season intact as he faces the 13th-seeded Casper Ruud in the fourth round of the 2026 BNP Paribas Open. Alcaraz got a bye in the first round, following which he secured a routine 6-2, 6-3 win over Grigor Dimitrov in the second round. In the third round, he faced one of his sternest challenges this season against Arthur Rinderknech, winning 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-2 against the 26th-seeded Frenchman.
Being seeded, Ruud got a bye in the first round as well, after which the Norwegian began his campaign with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Alexander Shevchenko, after which he won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 against the 24th-seeded Valentin Vacherot in the third round.

Alcaraz vs Ruud Head-to-Head
After six meetings, Alcaraz has a 5-1 lead in the head-to-head against Ruud. The last time they met, the Spaniard won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the semifinal of the Japan Open last year.
Alcaraz is unbeaten in 14 matches this season so far, which includes two titles at the Australian Open and at the Qatar Open. The Spaniard has faced quality opposition, winning against the likes of Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in the last two matches in Melbourne, and absolutely dominating Andrey Rublev and Arthur Fils in the final two matches in Qatar.
Ruud has not had the best start to 2026. The Norwegian played four events before Indian Wells, and he won only at the Australian Open, where he lost to Ben Shelton in the fourth round. He already has two opening-round exits this year, losing to Fabian Marozsan in Auckland and to Wu Yibing in Acapulco.
Alcaraz vs Ruud Prediction
Both Alcaraz and Ruud have great serving performances in Indian Wells so far, with the Spaniard winning 78% of the first serve points, while Ruud winning 70% of the first serve points. The Norwegian is ahead on second serve stats, winning 78% of the second serve points, compared to Alcaraz’s 60% win rate behind the second serve.
Both players have been broken only once in two matches, while Alcaraz converted 7 of 15 break-point opportunities, and Ruud converted 4 of 11. The Spaniard is ahead on the winners count as well, hitting 78 winners in two matches, compared to Ruud’s 70.
Alcaraz has been the standard this season on the ATP Tour that the other players are chasing. The World No.1 has looked phenomenal so far, as reflected in the PFSN Simulator, which gives the top seed an 89% win probability.
Ruud has made incremental improvements in his game, especially his serve, but given the current scenario, it would be a huge upset if he pulled off a victory over the Spaniard.
