Carlos Alcaraz had to skip the Madrid Open due to a wrist injury, but the world No. 2 still made an appearance at the Caja Magica this week to support a very special competitor. On the spectator’s seat, the Spaniard proudly watched his younger brother, Jaime Alcaraz, secure a straight-sets victory in his Under-16 tournament debut. The family moment was even more special as Jaime took to the clay, literally following in his older brother’s footsteps.
Jaime Steps Into His Brother Carlos Alcaraz’s Signature Nike Shoes for U-16 Madrid Win
After the Monte-Carlo Masters, Carlos’s 2026 clay-court season has unfortunately been derailed by a right wrist injury, which forced him to withdraw from Barcelona after the second round and announce he would skip the Madrid Open, the Rome Masters, and his title defense at Roland Garros, hoping to be back for Wimbledon. However, he still found a perfect reason to visit the tournament grounds this week.
On Thursday, Carlos swapped the spotlight for a seat in the stands at Court 7, cheering on his 14-year-old brother, Jaime, during his highly anticipated debut at the Mutua Madrid Open Under-16 tournament.
Jaime stepped onto the court wearing the Nike Vapor 12 “Carlos Alcaraz”, a signature shoe model exclusively designed by Nike for the seven-time Grand Slam champion.

Jaime defeated fellow Spaniard Pol Mas Tabuena 6‑3, 6‑3, and Carlos took to social media to publicly celebrate the milestone. He shared a photo on his Instagram Stories featuring himself, Jaime, and Jaime’s coach, Ramon Abenza Sanchez, with a simple one-word caption: “Proud.”

Carlos wasn’t the only one in the stands for Jaime’s debut. Their parents were there, alongside world No. 13 Flavio Cobolli, a close friend of the Alcaraz family who regularly trains with Carlos in Murcia during the offseason.
Jaime, who will turn 15 in June, is the youngest of four brothers. While the third brother, Sergio, does not play tennis, the eldest, Álvaro, the family’s original tennis prodigy before Carlos, now travels the world as part of the world No. 2’s coaching team.

Jaime has been turning heads for a while now. Late last year, he captured the Rafa Nadal Tour junior event trophy, and just last month, he went viral after winning the Sub-15 division at the ATP Challenger event in Murcia.
Meanwhile, just a day prior, Jaime was seen spending time with Carlos’s biggest rival (and friend), world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, behind the scenes at the Madrid Open as the Italian secured a place in the final four after a 6-2, 7-6(0) victory against Spain’s rising star Rafael Jódar. H will face Arthur Fils in the semifinal today.
