Carlos Alcaraz’s 2025 US Open triumph has sparked a fresh idea: a new tattoo to immortalize the victory. Known for marking each Grand Slam milestone on his body, the Spaniard plans to continue the tradition, even if it means breaking a promise he made to his parents last year.
Alcaraz etched his name into tennis history by once again overcoming arch-rival Jannik Sinner to claim his sixth Grand Slam title at the US Open. Sunday’s showdown was the third consecutive Grand Slam final between the rivals, with Alcaraz winning in two hours and 42 minutes. The Spaniard remained composed throughout the 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory, showing little sign of the challenge before him.
How Will Carlos Alcaraz Continue His Tattoo Tradition After US Open Triumph?
Alcaraz has a unique tradition of commemorating his Grand Slam triumphs with tattoos. From inking the date of his first major on his elbow, to a strawberry near his right ankle after his 2023 Wimbledon victory, and Paris’s iconic Eiffel Tower on his left ankle, each tattoo tells the story of a milestone in his remarkable journey.

On top of that, Alcaraz boldly inked ‘CCC’ on his left forearm, a lasting tribute to his grandfather’s creed ‘cabeza, corazón, cojones’ (head, heart, b*lls).

But Alcaraz is poised to continue this tradition with his US Open triumph. Speaking to ESPN’s Chris McKendry, Mary Joe Fernandez, and James Blake after the match, Alcaraz revealed that while tattooing began as a tradition for his first Major at Flushing Meadows, he had only inscribed the date back then, and he felt he needed to carry on the custom.
This time, following a bet, he plans to add two New York-inspired tattoos: the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty.
“Well I said it is going to be the first Major, but seeing that the first US Open that I won in 2022, I tattoo just the date. I had to do something. Probably I’m going to do two things because I had a bet at the beginning of the tournaments. The Brooklyn bridge. I think yeah. And obviously the Statue of Liberty,” he said.
It is worth noting that Alcaraz’s string of tattoos, including his most recent addition, comes despite his earlier promise to his parents to get only one tattoo per Major.
“I told my parents, just to calm them, that it’s just the first one in every Major!” He playfully shared in an interview with Tennis Channel last year.Â
Carlos Alcaraz Stuck in a Playful Dilemma Over US Open Tattoo Plans
The US Open victory marks a major milestone for the Spaniard, being his second such title. Yet it also sparked a playful dilemma: where to ink New York’s iconic landmarks. Alcaraz revealed he plans to get two tattoos but is still undecided on their placement.
“I am going to do both, and the date, because this one is special. I had to get tattoo twice. I have the date here, so probably, I don’t know if it’s going to be here or in the I don’t know. I have to think about it. New York is going to get two,” he added.
Beyond claiming his sixth Major, Alcaraz achieved several other milestones. The Spaniard will overtake Sinner to become World No. 1, ending his rival’s 65-week reign. He also extended his head-to-head lead to 10-5 and snapped Sinner’s 27-match winning streak in hard-court Majors. Alcaraz became the second-youngest man in the Open Era to capture six Grand Slam singles titles, trailing only Björn Borg.
