On the tennis side, Giorgi, known for being one of the hardest hitters on the tour, turned professional in 2006 and won four WTA Tour titles. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 26 in the world.
Giorgi’s biggest title victory came at the 2021 Canadian Open, where she triumphed over Elise Mertens, Nadia Podoroska, Petra Kvitová, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula on her way to the final. There, she overcame Karolína Plíšková with a score of 6-3, 7-5, claiming her first title at the WTA 1000 level.
In addition to her Canadian Open victory, the Italian also won three other WTA Tour titles: the 2015 Topshelf Open in Rosmalen, Netherlands (defeating Belinda Bencic in the final), the 2018 Upper Austria Ladies Linz title (beating Ekaterina Alexandrova in the championship match), and the 2023 Mérida Open (where she defeated Rebecca Peterson in the final).
At Grand Slam tournaments, Giorgi made her main draw debut at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. Her best performance at a Grand Slam came in 2018 when she reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where she was eliminated by eventual runner-up Serena Williams. She also advanced to the fourth round at the 2013 US Open and the 2022 French Open, and reached the third round at the Australian Open five times: in 2015, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Giorgi advanced past Jennifer Brady, Elena Vesnina, and Karolína Plíšková before losing to eventual bronze medalist Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals. Giorgi retired from professional sports in 2024 after competing at the Miami Open, where she defeated Magdalena Fręch before being ousted by Iga Świątek.
