Trinity Rodman made her feelings clear after controversy struck during her boyfriend Ben Shelton’s second-round Wimbledon match on Thursday.
As the American tennis star found himself in the middle of an abrupt and confusing match suspension just one game away from victory, Rodman, a U.S. women’s soccer star, expressed her support to him.
Ben Shelton’s Momentum Stalled by Sudden Suspension
Shelton, the 10th seed at Wimbledon 2025, was in full control of his second-round clash with Rinky Hijikata before an unexpected interruption shifted the momentum. On Thursday night, he stood just one game away from victory, leading 5-4 in the third set and holding triple match point. Although he had missed converting earlier match points on Hijikata’s serve at 5-3, Shelton earned a chance to serve out the match at 40-0.
Just as he was getting ready to close it out, play was suddenly suspended at 9:29 p.m. local time due to low light. This came despite both players having earlier raised concerns about the dimming conditions and being instructed to continue.
The timing of the decision left the 22-year-old visibly frustrated, prompting a tense exchange with the chair umpire. The abrupt stoppage drew criticism from fans and analysts, especially given Shelton’s commanding position and the earlier lighting complaints.

With the match paused, Shelton must now return Friday to wrap it up, potentially losing valuable recovery time ahead of a possible third-round appearance. The victor of this match will go on to play either Gaël Monfils or Marton Fucsovics, whose match was also delayed because of darkness.
Shortly after the match was paused, Shelton took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos from the tense encounter, captioning the post, “They ain’t wanna see anything else from me tonight but I’ll see yall tomorrow.”
