The 2025 French Open Final was undoubtedly disappointing for Aryna Sabalenka, who had spoken about her plans to unwind after the loss. Days later, the Belarusian followed through, enjoying a peaceful getaway in Greece with her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis.

Sabalenka opened the match strong, taking the first set in a tiebreak. But she couldn’t keep up the momentum. The World No. 1 racked up 70 unforced errors and couldn’t close out either of the next two sets. Coco Gauff mounted a comeback, winning 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-4 to capture her second Grand Slam title — and first on clay.
After the loss, Sabalenka expressed her frustration, attributing the outcome more to her own mistakes than Gauff’s performance. Her comments sparked backlash from the tennis community., though she later clarified that Gauff managed the conditions better and deserved the win.
In her post-match press conference, Sabalenka said she planned to head to Mykonos to get away from it all.
“I already have [a] flight booked to Mykonos and alcohol, sugar,” she said. “I just need a couple of days to completely forget about this crazy world. If I could swear, I would swear right now with this crazy thing that happened today. I think everyone understands. I am just trying to be very polite now. But there is no other word that could describe what just happened today on the court.”
“But yeah, tequila, gummy bears and, I don’t know, swimming. Being like the tourist for a couple of days,” she added.

The 27-year-old made good on that promise, arriving in Mykonos with Frangulis and a few friends. Frangulis, who frequently shares updates from their life together, posted a few snaps from the trip on Instagram.

This was Sabalenka’s second consecutive Grand Slam final defeat in 2025. She also lost at the Australian Open earlier this year to Madison Keys.
Sabalenka Keeps No. 1 WTA Ranking Despite French Open Setback
Despite the disappointment in Paris, Sabalenka retained her World No. 1 spot. After exiting in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 2024, her runner-up finish this year earned her a net gain of 870 points (1,300 earned minus 430 defended), bringing her total to 11,553.
Gauff, who was a semifinalist last year, gained 1,220 points with her title win and now sits behind Sabalenka at 8,083 points in the WTA rankings. With the win, the 20-year-old American improved her head-to-head record against Sabalenka to 6-5.
