World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has made her intentions crystal clear ahead of the 2026 Miami Open final, promising a high-energy, emotionally charged battle against Coco Gauff. After storming through the draw without dropping a set, Sabalenka previewed the clash in vivid terms, highlighting intensity, aggression, and entertainment as the defining ingredients of their latest chapter. With their head-to-head perfectly balanced, the Belarusian’s words only added to the anticipation surrounding the final.
What To Expect From Aryna Sabalenka Against Coco Gauff
Turning her focus to the final after her semifinal win, Sabalenka offered her take on what fans can expect against Gauff. With their rivalry locked at 6-6 across 12 meetings, she expects nothing less than another fierce contest.
“A lot of rallies, a lot of emotions, a lot of aggression, a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s going to be a battle, and I’m super excited to play her in another final.”
Gauff eliminated any doubts about her form by reaching the final in Miami. The American, who injured herself at Indian Wells, was advised against competing at her home tournament by her team. She, however, brushed off their concerns and participated just to “prove them wrong.”
Gauff beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Alycia Parks, Sorana Cîrstea, and Belinda Bencic before dominating Karolína Muchová 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinal. The upcoming showdown against Sabalenka will be their fourth championship match, with their previous finals encounters coming at the 2023 US Open, where Gauff emerged victorious; the 2025 Madrid Open, which Sabalenka won; and the 2025 Roland Garros final, once again claimed by the American.

Sabalenka’s Dominant March to the Miami Open Final
The top seed’s campaign began in the second round with a hard-fought victory over Ann Li, where she had to navigate a tense first-set tiebreak before closing the match out 7-6(5), 6-4. She followed this with a clinical performance against Caty McNally, winning 6-4, 6-2, and then dispatched No. 23 seed Qinwen Zheng in the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline. In the quarterfinals, she continued her straight-sets streak by defeating Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-4.
In the semifinals, Sabalenka faced a highly anticipated rematch against Elena Rybakina. Entering the match with a boost in confidence after defeating Rybakina previously in the Indian Wells final, Sabalenka delivered a 6-4, 6-3 victory to extend their head-to-head tally to 10-7.
Reflecting on that rivalry, Sabalenka emphasized the level it demands from her game.

“I really enjoy our rivalry. She’s an incredible player, always pushed me to the limit. And with her, you have to bring your best tennis, and that’s why I was able to pull out such a great tennis today,” she said.
She noted that she executed her plan effectively while still acknowledging the quality on the other side of the net. “I think I did everything right, and she played great, but I pushed her so much, and I’m proud with this win. And it’s always tough, always tough physically, mentally, and I’m happy to get another win against her.”
