Aryna Sabalenka’s Grand Slams so far in 2025 have ended with a defeat to an American player. The Belarusian lost to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final and to Coco Gauff in the French Open final. Most recently, she lost to Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Just before her post-match press conference, Sabalenka made a humorous comment about the controversy from her Roland Garros press conference.
Aryna Sabalenka’s Record Against Americans in Grand Slams
Sabalenka lost to American Amanda Anisimova 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2025. After the match, the Belarusian entered her press conference by saying
“You’re not going to see a Roland Garros press conference,” with a smile on her face. She handled all the questions well and didn’t say anything controversial. When it was over, she even made a joke, saying “Ha ha ha, you didn’t get anything,” with a smile as she walked away.

Sabalenka’s comments were a reference to what she said after losing to Coco Gauff in the French Open final. The 27-year-old stated that the American won because of the errors she made, words that saw her receive a wave of criticism.
Speaking further in the press conference, Sabalenka spoke about what she learned since her French Open final controversy. The Belarusian said that she took more time before doing her press conference in order to be herself.
“I just don’t want to face that hate again. No, I mean, we’re all people. We all can lose control of our emotions. It’s absolutely normal,” Sabalenka said.
“Even right now I took a bit more time before doing my media. Just so I can be Aryna, not that crazy person that was at that media day at Roland Garros,” she added.
