Fils vs Etcheverry Head-to-Head Record
This will be the first meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour, though they met in a Challenger event four years ago. It was Etcheverry who came out on top then, advancing after Fils retired in the third set.
Fils appears to have arrived on the ATP Tour and is in the midst of a stunning run at the moment. He made the final in Doha, the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, and the semifinals in Miami, before lifting his first title of the season in Barcelona.
The 21-year-old started his campaign in Madrid with a come-from-behind win over Ignacio Buse in three sets. But he found his groove in the third round and comfortably dispatched Emilio Nava.
Etcheverry is also enjoying a strong season with a 20-9 overall record. The Argentinian won his first title on the ATP Tour at the Rio Open in February, and also made the semifinals in Buenos Aires.
In addition, he made the fourth round in Miami and the third round in Monte-Carlo before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in three sets. Etcheverry defeated Sebastian Ofner in his opener in Madrid, before overcoming talented youngster Dino Prižmić in three sets.
Fils vs Etcheverry Prediction and Pick
Etcheverry thrives on the red dirt and is enjoying another strong clay-court season. He has a strong baseline game with a forehand that produces heavy topspin. While his playing style hasn’t previously translated to the high-altitude environment of Madrid, he has looked very much at home this year.
Fils is playing some excellent tennis at the moment and has lost just 1 of his last 12 matches. With his back injury in his rearview mirror, the Frenchman has all the attributes to have a breakout season this year.
Key to Fils’ success so far this year has been his excellent court coverage and ability to play at the top level in every match. We are backing him to continue his run by defeating Etcheverry on Tuesday, although it could be a match that goes down to the wire.
