How the Tennis Community Reacted to Anna Kalinskaya and Camila Osorio’s French Open Drama

Kalinskaya made a strong start to the contest against Osorio, winning the opening set 6-3. However, the Russian began struggling in the second set and called for a medical timeout while trailing 0-4, 0-40. Appearing to be affected by the heat, she received treatment from the doctor and the physiotherapist while icing her body.

Although Osorio bageled Kalinskaya in the second set and forced a decider, the Russian rebounded strongly in the third to claim a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 victory and book her place in the fourth round of the French Open.

The controversy unfolded when both players met at the net for the customary post-match handshake, with Osorio offering a very brief touch of hands before quickly moving on without shaking hands with the umpire.

The exchange quickly drew attention within the tennis community, with several fans pointing out that it was rare to see Osorio deliver such an icy handshake.

“First time ever I’ve seen Cami with the sore loser handshake,” a fan wrote.

“Idk what happened here but I stand with Cami, shes way too nice for this to not be a result of anything that happened prior,” another fan chimed in.

Meanwhile, fans suggested that Kalinskaya’s medical timeout was the reason for Osorio’s apparent irritation.

“MTO in the second set. Ana barely moved. Then, she was Alcaraz 2.0 😱Camila wasn’t happy at all,” a fan posted.

“for camila, who takes every loss with grace, to do this, it has to be really bad. I don’t endorse it, but also the frustration speaks for itself. Especially when the other one has accused her of faking before and does a miracle recovery within 10 minutes today,” another fan said.

The fans’ opinion gained traction when tennis journalist Andres Vargas Peraza reported that Osorio’s father, Carlos, had called out Kalinskaya for making a habit of disrupting matches.

He reportedly cited their clash at the 2025 China Open, where the Colombian emerged victorious after Kalinskaya broke down in tears on the court midway through the contest.

“I still can’t believe that Camila Osorio didn’t win the match. I spoke with her dad after the match and he told me that those performances from the Russian are a habit. In China last year she did something very similar to her,” he said.

Tennis journalist Myles David also voiced his belief that the world No. 24 has become notorious among her peers for “oddly timed” medical timeouts.

“I wouldn’t surprised if Kalinskaya has developed something of a reputation with her opponents considering the amount of times she calls phsyios for what comes across as oddly timed and insignificant medical time outs. Just an observation,” David posted.

Meanwhile, several fans claimed the “beef” between the two players could be traced back to their clash at the 2022 Guadalajara Open, where Kalinskaya reportedly took issue with Osorio’s medical timeout.

“They have like 4 year beef over an mto Camila took when they played in Mexico,” one fan posted.

“Kalinskaya accused Osorio of faking an MTO in one of their earliest matches (after which Osorio lost the match cuz she was indeed injured),” said another.

Anna Kalinskaya Details Fitness Struggles After Defeating Camila Osorio

Speaking to Championat after her victory, Kalinskaya opened up about how the sweltering heat in Paris left her feeling dizzy and unwell during the match.

“The heat was killing me. I started feeling sick in the first set, dizzy and weak. It’s good I managed to win it. Then I decided to freshen up, but it didn’t help at all. In the second set, at 4-0, I let it go because I was feeling sick and called a physiotherapist,” she said.

The Russian also credited the umpire for providing support while she dealt with the health issues, saying:

“I felt bad, an 8.5 out of 10. I’m glad I managed to win and get myself together for the third set. The referee helped because she asked how I was feeling, as I couldn’t speak anymore. They brought me a ton of ice, water, and electrolytes.”
