Andy Roddick Talks About the Game Styles of Former Wimbledon Champions Barbora Krejčíková and Markéta Vondroušová

In a recent episode of the “Served with Andy Roddick” podcast, Roddick praised Vondroušová’s unique hook shot, likening it to Rafael Nadal’s move. He noted that this distinctive shot allows her to navigate challenging situations during matches effectively.

“The flat ball she hits that, that little Rafa hook shot lefty to get out of trouble also, and it kind of works on grass cuz it’s tailing away. But the other thing that Vondroušová has is her game is so unique with the way she serves and kind of plays inside-out lefty, which isn’t something that you’re used to,” Roddick said.

The former US Open champion highlighted that both Krejčíková and Vondroušová possess a fearless approach to their game.

“She has a game where she kind of does not have the same type of style but the same type of game where if Krejčíková finds it, she’s not scared to play the top players. It is like something about their games translates to, ‘Okay, when I’m not confident, I can lose to players that are below me.’ It’s not that kind of grinded-out game where you know we’re going to play,” he continued.

Roddick also characterized the playing styles of Krejčíková and Vondroušová as the “anti-Coco Gauff.” He also asserted that their techniques would pose a significant challenge to the top five players at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

“It’s like the anti-Coco Gauff. She finds a way through matches early in tournaments, but if they find it, they match up well against the top players. Vondroušová and Krejčíková, when they level up, I value them. Seen it really well against the top five players,” he added.

Leading up to the London Major, Vondroušová competed in the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, where she secured her third career WTA Tour title by defeating Wang Xinyu with a scoreline of 7-6(10), 4-6, 6-2 in the final. This victory also marked her first title since winning at Wimbledon in 2023.

Meanwhile, Krejčíková is currently participating in the 2025 Eastbourne Open. She defeated Harriet Dart in the first round of the tournament and is set to face Jodie Burrage in the second round.
