Andy Roddick Drops a Cheeky Comment on Carlos Alcaraz’s Mixed Doubles Run With Emma Raducanu

Alcaraz and Raducanu teamed up for mixed doubles at the 2025 US Open, entering a revamped mixed-doubles draw that was played in the first week of the tournament.

They played just one match, a first-round encounter against Jack Draper (Britain) and Jessica Pegula (USA), who were among the top seeds. The match was best-of-short sets (to four games), and Draper/Pegula defeated Alcaraz/Raducanu 4-2, 4-2, ending their run in about 50 minutes.

Days after Alcaraz’s victory over Jannik Sinner in the finals, Roddick stepped forward to comment on his partnership with Raducanu. Addressing the chemistry in a recent episode of the Served Live show, the ex-pro mentioned how it seemed more of a “flirt” session.

“They just wanted to flirt for an hour. Like, what are we doing here,” he said.

Currently leading Team Europe at the Laver Cup 2025, Alcaraz’s opening doubles match saw him team up with Jakub Menšík for Team Europe against Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen of Team World. The pair won the match in straight sets, 7-6^(9-7), 6-4.

Raducanu Defends Alcaraz Amid the Buzz About His New Haircut

Alcaraz drew mixed reactions as he appeared at the US Open 2025 with a new haircut. While many saw it as a cool new look, others found it odd and unsuitable. Among the ones who backed him over the replenished look was Raducanu. During a press conference at the US Open, the WTA star said:

“I think the fact that he does it with confidence and owns it… I think he pulls it off. I’d say support him. If you can own a haircut like that you can make it work. Mixed field, but whatever he does, it’s not gonna affect what he does on the court. I’m just happy to see him having fun with whatever.”

Alcaraz later showed up at Laver Cup 2025 sporting a freshly bleached platinum blonde buzz cut. Teammates and rivals alike reacted with humor and admiration: Casper Ruud dubbed him “Silver Fox,” Zverev hoped it was a good omen, Opelka quipped, “you just won the US Open, do whatever you want,” while Frances Tiafoe jokingly called it “horrendous.”
