Rublev vs Sonego Head-to-Head History

Rublev holds a narrow 4-2 head-to-head lead over Sonego, but the Italian has won both their matches on clay so far. He defeated Rublev in three sets at the 2021 Italian Open and in five sets at the 2023 French Open.

Their last meeting came at the 2025 Canadian Open, where Rublev came from behind to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

It has been a frustrating year so far for Rublev, with the highlights being his runs to the semifinals in Hong Kong, Doha, and Dubai. But he lost both his opening matches during the Sunshine Swing and was also sent packing in the second round in Monte-Carlo.

Rublev was by no means at his best in his 6-4, 7-5 win over Mariano Navone in the first round of the Barcelona Open. He had his serve broken three times and only landed his first serve 57% of the time. But he still managed to eke out the win, making his experience count and winning the decisive points.

Sonego is playing in his first tournament since the Australian Open and started with a hard-fought three-set win over Pedro Martinez. The Italian fired 5 aces, broke his opponent’s serve 5 times, and also had a first-serve win percentage of 69%.

Rublev vs Sonego Match Prediction

Despite an overall record of 55-58 on the surface, Sonego is a decent clay-court player with several solid seasons under his belt. But he will likely still be rusty after a long wrist injury lay-off, and that is something Rublev will look to take advantage of.

Rublev has had to deal with struggles of his own of late, and has never beaten Sonego on clay. So we could see a close match between two strong clay-court players.

But the world No. 15 also has 6 clay-court titles, including 2 ATP Masters 1000 titles. And we are backing him to use that big-match experience to fend off Sonego’s challenge in the round of 16 at the Barcelona Open.

Pick – Rublev in three sets
