What Did Agassi and Opelka Say Before the Commencement of Laver Cup 2025?
While speaking to the media ahead of the beginning of the 2025 Laver Cup, Agassi discussed his role as the captain and coach of Team World. He expressed his intention to understand the unique playing styles of each player and work with them accordingly.
“Coaching is about what somebody hears, not what you say. It’s learning about people, about players, in real time. I think the most important thing is to understand how they process. We all work so differently. That’s going to be so important to understand in real-time what they’re looking for — information, clarity, focus, energy,” Agassi said.

Opelka spoke about his experience working with Agassi, referring to him as a “legend” of tennis. He praised the former World No. 1 for his willingness to share his extensive knowledge of the sport, describing him as a “nice human being” and “incredibly intelligent.”
“Andre is such a legend of the game. You always hear so much about him. The consensus is that he’s just this incredibly nice human being and incredibly intelligent. This is my first time really getting to interact with him. He gives back to the game and is happy to spread knowledge. He’s just been a great asset for tennis and especially American tennis,” Opelka said.
On the first day of the 2025 Laver Cup, Opelka will kick off the proceedings for Team World by competing in a singles match against Team Europe’s Ruud.
