What Did Amanda Anisimova Say After Defeating Iga Świątek at the 2025 US Open?

The journey to this moment was no cakewalk for Anisimova, who is seeded eighth at the New York Major. She started strong, knocking out Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and Maya Joint 7-6(2), 6-2 in the second. After that, she outlasted Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, then overcame eighteenth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-0, 6-3 to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals.

With her run in full swing, Anisimova met Świątek, the second seed, on a much bigger stage. In front of a fired-up crowd, she took the win 6-4, 6-3, marking her first US Open semifinal appearance.

After the match, Anisimova let her emotions show during the on-court interview. She described beating Świątek as both “special” and a “dream” come true, especially after the disappointment at Wimbledon. She said her hard work to turn the tables made the victory even sweeter.

“Playing here is so freaking special. And I’ve been having the run of my life here. The first day I got here, I was like, ‘Okay, let’s try and get through one round.’ This has been such a dream, and to come back from Wimbledon like that, it’s really special to me. I feel like I worked so hard to try and turn around from that, and today I proved everything to me, like I can do it. So, this was really special,” Anisimova said.

Anisimova explained that from the start of her match with Świątek, she focused on firing herself up because the Polish star is one of the “toughest opponents” she has ever faced. Even though she won in straight sets, Anisimova called it a “battle” to pull off the win.

“From the get-go, I was trying to fire myself up. She’s one of the toughest players I’ve ever played. I knew that I was going to have to dig really deep. It was such a tough match. I know the score line wasn’t like three sets or anything, but it truly was a battle for me,” she added.

Świątek reached the quarterfinals after getting past Emiliana Arango (6-1, 6-2), Suzan Lamens (6-1, 4-6, 6-4), twenty-ninth seed Anna Kalinskaya (7-6(2), 6-4), and thirteenth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-3, 6-1) across the first four rounds. This set up the big clash with Anisimova for a spot in the semis.

Who Will Anisimova Face at the 2025 US Open Semifinals?

Right after dispatching Świątek in the quarterfinals, Anisimova is set to face twenty-third seed Naomi Osaka in the semifinals in New York.

Osaka came into the tournament seeded twenty-third and started off by defeating Greet Minnen 6-3, 6-4 in round one. She moved on with a win over Hailey Baptiste, 6-3, 6-1, then survived against the fifteenth seed Daria Kasatkina, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, in the next two rounds.

Building on her momentum, Osaka scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory against third seed Coco Gauff in the fourth round, then booked her spot in the semifinals with a hard-fought win over eleventh seed Karolína Muchová, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the quarters.

Looking ahead to the semifinals, Anisimova has beaten Osaka in both of their meetings on the WTA Tour, with the most recent coming at the 2022 French Open, where Anisimova won 7-5, 6-4.

The winner between Anisimova and Osaka will face either defending champion and top seed Aryna Sabalenka or fourth seed Jessica Pegula in the final.
