2025 was a breakthrough season for Amanda Anisimova as the American player finished the year as the No. 4 player in the world on the WTA Rankings. Let’s look at some of the spotlight moments from her 2025 season that catapulted her to the top of the rankings.
Amanda Anisimova’s 2025 Highlights
#1. Maiden WTA 1000 Title In Doha
One of the early moments in 2025 that showed that Amanda Anisimova was ready to take the next step in her career was her run at the Qatar Open. Coming into the event, she had a modest 3-3 win-loss record in the season.
However, she was in supreme touch in Doha, running through an impressive gauntlet of players, including Victoria Azarenka, Paula Badosa, Leylah Fernandez, Marta Kostyuk, and Ekaterina Alexandrova, to reach the final. She played a great match against Jelena Ostapenko in the final, winning in straight sets against the Latvian, winning her maiden title at the WTA 1000 level.
#2. Maiden Major Final and Top-10 Ranking
After an indifferent showing in the clay-court season, Anisimova began her grass-court season wth a runner-up finish in Queens. Coming into Wimbledon, she was one of the in-form players, and she justified the tag by gradually making a deep run at the event with wins over the likes of Yulia Putintseva, Linda Noskova, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to reach the semifinal, where she faced off against top seed Aryna Sabalenka.
The American had lost to the Belarusian in their previous meeting at the French Open, but on this occasion, she played one of the best matches of her career, winning against the World No. 1 in three sets and breaking into the Top 10.
#3. US Open Final
Anisimova had a horror time in her maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, as she could not win a single game against the Pole. However, in the next Major at the US Open, Anisimova went on a stellar run yet again, reaching consecutive Major finals.
One of the most consequential matches of that run for Anisimova was her match against ÅšwiÄ…tek in the quarterfinal, just over a month after their Wimbledon match. This time around, however, the American exacted her revenge, winning in straight sets over the Pole and also breaking into the Top-5 with her showing in New York.
#4. Title in Beijing
After her disappointing final loss to Aryna Sabalenka at the US Open final, if anyone thought Amanda Anisimova would slow down, they were mistaken, as the American reached her second WTA 1000 Final of the season at the China Open. She reached the summit clash with wins over the likes of Karolina Muchova, Jasmine Paolini, and Coco Gauff. In another topsy-turvy three-set final, she overcame the challenge of Linda Noskova, winning her second title of the season.
#5. Semi-Final Run At WTA Finals
With her performances all over the year, Anisimova qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time in her career. The American had a decent run in the competition, winning against Madison Keys and defeating Iga Swiatek once again, getting a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head against the Pole. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal, having a 1-3 record against the World No. 1 player in 2025.
