Two-time major finalist Amanda Anisimova has announced that she has a new reason to celebrate as the WTA has updated a key detail in her official profile. The development comes against the backdrop of the 24-year-old qualifying for the WTA Finals for the first time, having reached the semifinals of the China Open.
Amanda Anisimova Has Claimed She Looked Like A Child In a Previous Official Photograph
Anisimova took to her Instagram stories to announce that the headshot, used in her WTA profile, has been updated following complaints that she looked 12 years old in her previous picture.
“Due to many requests and comments saying I look 12, my headshot has been updated,” wrote the American tennis star, adding a celebratory emoticon.
Meanwhile, fans have reacted hilariously to the American star’s blunt take, with one even sharing the earlier headshot where she purportedly looked like a child.

Anisimova, who stepped away from the sport in 2023 due to struggles with mental health and burnout, has enjoyed a stellar 2025. Her impressive form has continued at the China Open, where she overcame Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinal slugfest that lasted nearly three hours.
More importantly, she qualified for the WTA Finals in Riyadh for the first time in her career.
“It was a goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year,” Anisimova said after the match with Paolini. “I think it was actually one of the only goals I made, so I’m super excited. And I’m excited to keep going here too. I really love playing in Beijing, so I’m excited for the semifinal.”
How Anisimova Established Herself Among The Sport’s Elite In 2025
The 2025 season marked a career-defining year for Anisimova, as she surged back into the spotlight and firmly established herself among the elite of women’s tennis.
Her first real breakthrough came at the Qatar Open 2025, where Anisimova stormed through the draw to capture her first WTA 1000 title, defeating Jelena Ostapenko in a straight-sets final. The victory propelled her into the world’s top 20. Later, at Roland Garros, she reached the fourth round for the third time in her career, a run that saw her break into the top 15.
She then impressed at the WTA 500 Queen’s Club Championships, where she claimed victories over Emma Navarro and top seed Zheng Qinwen to reach her first grass-court final.
At the All England Club, Anisimova stunned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to reach her maiden Grand Slam final. However, she fell to Iga Świątek in what was dubbed the most one-sided Wimbledon final in over a century. Following the impressive result, Anisimova cracked the world’s top 10 for the first time, rising to No. 7.

At the US Open, she delivered another inspired run, avenging her Wimbledon defeat by beating Świątek in the quarterfinals and overcoming Naomi Osaka in the semifinals. She ultimately fell to Sabalenka in a competitive straight-sets final, rising to a career-high world No. 4.
Anisimova will play countrywoman Coco Gauff for a spot in the final of the China Open.
