Amanda Anisimova Relishes Quality Time With Her Nephews and Pet Dog Days After Painful Dubai Exit

Anisimova’s 2026 campaign has not lived up to the momentum she built with two Grand Slam final appearances last season. An early quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open was followed by a disappointing run in Doha, as she failed to defend her crown after a shock second-round loss to Karolína Plíšková.

There were, however, signs of resurgence at the Dubai Duty Free Championships. She got past the former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejčíková via a walkover in the second round, defeated Janice Tjen in straight sets, and then edged out Mirra Andreeva in a hard-fought three-set quarterfinal to reach the semifinals.

However, her inconsistencies resurfaced against compatriot and eventual champion Jessica Pegula. The World No. 5 recovered from a set down and a 3-1 deficit in the second to mount a strong comeback, prevailing 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in just over two hours to book her place in her 21st final on the WTA tour.

With a significant stretch of the season still ahead, she has ample opportunity to reset and rebound. For now, however, she has stepped away from competition to recharge, spending quality time with her nephews and her beloved pet dog ‘Mochi.’

The World No. 6 shared a playful clip of her chihuahua darting around on the couch as she fondly called out its name. Another video captured two of her nephews laughing and running around the room, with the younger one repeatedly calling the dog before placing a dolphin plush toy in front of it. In a final adorable moment, the children were heard calling for the pup again, who appeared to be tucked away inside a small camping tent.

Anisimova shares an utterly close bond with her nephews, something she has often reflected in her post-match speeches. Fans were introduced to one of them, Jackson, after her quarterfinal victory at Wimbledon. She also gave them a heartfelt mention following her triumph at the China Open, creating yet another touching moment.

Anisimova currently holds a 7-4 win-loss record in 2026 and would look to improve it going forward. The American would now look to excel at the upcoming WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, starting on March 4.
