Alexander Zverev takes on Rafael Jódar in the quarterfinals of the 2026 French Open. The second seed has done well to make it this far amid a flurry of upsets in men’s singles at Roland Garros. However, he faces his toughest test yet on Tuesday against the talented Jódar, who has been in inspired form on clay this year.

Zverev vs Jódar Head-to-Head Record
This will be the first meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour. Zverev arrives into this match after four relatively straightforward wins to start off his Roland Garros campaign.
The German will view this as his best ever opportunity to end his Grand Slam drought, with Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic both already eliminated. He has been dominant for the most part on clay so far this year and goes into this match with a 17-4 win-loss record on the surface.
Jódar has been the breakout star of the clay-court swing, winning the title in Morocco, making the semifinals in Barcelona, and the quarterfinals in both Madrid and Rome.
The 19-year-old has had an eventful debut campaign at Roland Garros, and came from two sets down to defeat compatriot Pablo Carreño Busta in the last round. He also needed five sets to overcome Alex Michelsen in the third round, and four to defeat James Duckworth in the second.
Zverev vs Jódar Prediction and Pick
Zverev may not get a better opportunity to win a Grand Slam, and he will be eager to make the most of it. He will be the favorite to come out on top here, having previously made the final in Paris in 2024.
However, Jódar will also fancy his chances of pulling off an upset against a player prone to lapses in concentration. The Spaniard’s game is tailor-made for clay courts, and he has looked very much at home on the surface so far this year.
Zverev’s defensive resolve will certainly be tested by Jódar’s front-foot tennis. The Madrid native is capable of chasing balls all day long, but it remains to be seen whether he has enough left in the tank to go toe-to-toe against a player of Zverev’s quality after going through back-to-back five-set matches.
The German usually plays his best tennis during the clay-court season, and he has made the semifinals in four of the last five editions of the French Open. We are backing him to use his experience to see off the challenge of Jódar. Although the talented youngster will certainly push him to the limit.
Pick – Zverev in four sets.
