Zverev vs. Fonseca: Head-to-Head Record
This will be the first-ever meeting on the ATP Tour between Fonseca and Zverev. The former has enjoyed a strong run in Monte-Carlo, defeating Gabriel Diallo in the first round before winning the big points to get the better of Arthur Rinderknech.
The 19-year-old’s talent was on full display against Matteo Berrettini, who came into their third-round match on the back of a 6-0, 6-0 win. But Fonseca delivered a performance of the highest quality and saw off the Italian rather comfortably, winning 6-3, 6-2.
Zverev had a poor start to his Monte-Carlo campaign and needed to come from 5-2 down in the third set to defeat Cristian Garín. But he found his groove against Bergs and cruised to a 6-2, 7-5 win.
The Monte-Carlo Masters is not a tournament where Zverev usually excels, but he will be confident about his chances of reaching his third semifinal appearance at the principality this year.
Zverev vs. Fonseca: Match Prediction
After getting a baptism by fire against Sinner and Alcaraz at the last two ATP 1000 tournaments, Fonseca now faces the world No. 3 as he looks to claim a statement win on the tour.
Zverev is a strong player on clay but remains prone to lapses in concentration and unforced errors. His high number of unforced errors across his opening two matches in Monte-Carlo remains a concern. But his serve was solid against Bergs, and he played a much more aggressive style of tennis than in the second round.
Fonseca could not have asked for a better lead-in to a match against Zverev. He delivered a near-perfect performance on serve against Berrettini, winning 90% of the points on his first serve. He also broke his big-serving opponent’s serve four times and will be full of confidence going into this quarterfinal.
