Alex De Minaur’s Fiance Katie Boulter Takes Playful Dig at His UTS Win As He Questions Her Fondness for the Trophy

Katie Boulter takes a playful dig at Alex de Minaur's third UTS title win after defeating Casper Ruud in London, earning nearly $964,000

Alex de Minaur has captured his third Ultimate Tennis Showdown title, extending his dominance in the fast-paced exhibition format. The Australian star’s recent victory at the London Grand Final saw him overcome World No. 12 Casper Ruud, prompting his fiancée Katie Boulter to offer a playful commentary on his achievement.

De Minaur successfully defended his Ultimate Tennis Showdown title in London on December 7, defeating Ruud in a commanding display. The Australian recovered from losing the opening quarter 11-15 before asserting control with scores of 15-10, 15-11, and 16-7 to seal a decisive victory. The 12th-ranked Ruud offered strong resistance but could not withstand de Minaur’s consistent performance across the remaining three quarters of the match.

Katie Boulter’s Comments on Alex de Minaur’s Third UTS Title

This triumph holds significant historical importance for de Minaur, as he became the first player to win three Ultimate Tennis Showdown titles in the tournament’s five-year history. His previous victories came at Antwerp in 2020 and London in 2024, establishing him as the undisputed master of the unique exhibition format.

During the trophy presentation ceremony, de Minaur reflected on the unique lightning bolt design of the prize. “You don’t see this type of trophy too often, but yeah, it makes for a great decoration at the house,” he said.

However, he quickly tempered his enthusiasm by adding a note of caution about Boulter’s potential reaction. “I’m not too sure how Katie’s going to feel about it, but hey!” he remarked with evident humour.

De Minaur’s comment proved prescient when Boulter responded to his Instagram post announcing the victory. When de Minaur posted about becoming a “back-to-back champ” with photographs from the match and trophy presentation, Boulter left a cheeky comment suggesting other household priorities took precedence.

“But you had more fun putting the Christmas tree up tho right,” she wrote.

The UTS features a distinctive structure with four eight-minute quarters, single serves per point, and bonus cards that add tactical depth to matches. These innovative rules have particularly suited de Minaur’s aggressive playing style, transforming him into the format’s most successful competitor.

The financial rewards matched the prestige of the achievement. De Minaur earned $390,000 as the match prize money for his victory, plus an additional $250,000 participation bonus for competing in an earlier UTS event in France.

Combined, his earnings totalled approximately $964,000 for his exploits. This substantial purse underscores the UTS’s commitment to rewarding top-tier performances during the off-season.
