Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce proved that his playmaking skills aren’t limited to the football field. The NFL star executed a perfect proposal to pop superstar Taylor Swift.
His extended romantic plan earned him a perfect 10 out of 10 rating from his now-fiancée.
How Did Travis Kelce Use His Podcast to Surprise Taylor Swift?
Swift discussed Kelce’s proposal strategy during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show. She explained how the Chiefs’ star completely surprised her with a detailed plan.
“He really uh crushed it when it came to surprising me,” Swift told the audience.
The tight end used his podcast as the perfect distraction. Swift appeared as a guest on New Heights, the show Kelce hosts with his brother Jason.
While Swift sat inside recording for hours, Kelce had construction crews working behind his house. The podcast session lasted three to four hours, giving him plenty of time to transform his backyard.
“We filmed the podcast for about 3 or 4 hours or whatever. And meanwhile, behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this,” Swift revealed.
Kelce’s attention to detail showed his strategic thinking. He made sure every element was in place, including professionally capturing the special moment.
“One of the things that he put in there very strategically was a wall of hedges that weren’t there before. And inside the hedges was my tour photographer hiding in bushes that had not previously been there,” Swift shared.
The newly installed hedge wall served a double purpose. It added to the romantic garden setting while hiding Swift’s tour photographer, who documented the entire proposal.
Swift gave her final rating on Kelce’s proposal execution. “He went all out. 10 out of 10,” she said.
Having professional photos of the exact moment holds special meaning for the couple. “It’s really fun that we actually have the exact moment,” Swift noted.
The 35-year-old tight end balances his engagement news with his NFL responsibilities. In the first four weeks of the 2025 season, Kelce has caught 15 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown.
Kelce also holds the NFL record for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons by a tight end with seven seasons. He reached 12,000 career receiving yards faster than any tight end in league history. He was able to accomplish it in just 172 games.
He has earned 10 Pro Bowl selections and seven All-Pro honors. He helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowl championships in 2020, 2023, and 2024.
