Should I Draft Tank Dell? Texans WR’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell popped in his first preseason game. Is his role in this offense enough for fantasy football managers to justify his current ADP?

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell isn’t your prototypical fantasy football receiver, but the man has been erasing preconceived notions his entire life, and his introduction to the NFL this preseason was a sign of just that. So what do we do? As a result of that performance, his ADP is on the move, and we are forced to either get ahead of it or deal with being left off of the Dell Express.

Tank Dell’s Fantasy Outlook for the 2023 NFL Season

The Texans aren’t going to win many games, but man, do they have a lot of underwhelming mouths to feed.

Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary will control this backfield, with the former handling the heavy lifting until proven otherwise. In the passing game, things get weird. For my money, Dalton Schultz is the most reliable target and is the only member of this group that I’d even consider putting into a lineup to start the season.

The WR room reads something like a CVS receipt: long and not exciting. Included on this depth chart are Robert Woods, Nico Collins, Noah Brown, John Metchie III, and Dell. Could any of them lead this team in targets? Could any of them not play a snap in the season opener?

Yes.

Is Dell a Good Fantasy Pick?

I do like taking a flier with my final pick, but Dell doesn’t fit the mold. That’s not to say I won’t be watching him and react if the need arises, but not out of the gate. He’s an undersized receiver who plays on an awful team with a rookie quarterback. No thanks.

Guys like Darius Slayton and Mecole Hardman aren’t regularly drafted … give me either over Dell. I’m not even sure Dell is the punt play on a bad team that I’d prefer (Michael Wilson, anyone?).

There will be weeks where he sees 6-8 targets, and maybe he turns them into something, but I don’t think the volume or production will be near consistent enough to ever warrant starting him, so why roster him?
