Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been making the most of his preseason by seeking guidance from veterans. His willingness to ask questions and learn from established NFL players has already created moments worth noting, and one particular exchange this week caught the attention of fans and reporters alike.
Hurts and Sanders Share a Valuable Exchange
During a joint practice between the Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles, Sanders approached Eagles quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts for what became a lengthy conversation, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The two were seen on the practice field apart from their teammates, with Eagles head of security “Big Dom” DiSandro nearby.

Hurts told reporters later that day, “I’ll keep the conversation intimate. We had a very lengthy conversation. He came to me and just wanted to talk. I’m always there… giving my perspective on what I see and how I’ve gone about things.”
Hurts went on to emphasize the importance of mindset in the league, adding, “Ultimately, it takes a great deal of patience and hard work and a sense of resilience. You gotta want it. You gotta want it.” He closed by saying, “I’m supporting him from where I am and wishing him nothing but the best with this opportunity.”
The meeting did not just end with words. Hurts gave Sanders a golf cart ride back to the locker room afterward.
The Browns later confirmed that Sanders suffered an oblique injury early in Wednesday’s practice. Despite the setback, he remained engaged enough to have this extended discussion with Hurts after the session ended. That choice underscores his dedication to learning daily, even when unable to fully participate in practice.
Earlier in the week, the Browns’ social media team shared a mic’d-up moment where Sanders asked star defensive end Myles Garrett how he would design a pass rush against him. This pattern of actively seeking insight from elite players shows Sanders’ intent to accelerate his growth.
Cleveland had planned to start Sanders in its second preseason game against the Eagles on Saturday if fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, recovering from hamstring tightness, was unavailable. However, PFSN’s Allison Koehler’s article citing ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Sanders’ oblique strain will likely sideline him for the matchup.
The Browns’ preseason game against the Eagles is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field, with NFL Network simulcasting the Eagles’ local broadcast nationally.
Sanders’ strong debut against the Panthers last week was encouraging, and now his off-field approach and eagerness to learn are also leaving a clear impression.
