The Philadelphia Eagles were formidable in their Super Bowl run last season and have similarly begun the 2025 campaign. The Eagles have displayed the ability to dominate wherever necessary to win games, leaning on their lesser-utilized passing game to defeat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3.
However, despite the team’s 3-0 start to their Super Bowl defense, former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has suggested that the team will need to improve moving forward.
Why Does Eagles Legend Nick Foles Think the Team Can Improve Despite a 3-0 Start?
Foles will always be loved in Philadelphia after leading the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl victory in 2017. Foles had an impressive record over five active seasons with the Eagles, across two different spells with the team. He won 25 of his 38 starts for Philadelphia, including the playoffs, throwing 69 touchdowns to 28 interceptions.
Unlike the 2025 Eagles, the 2018 team didn’t get their third win of the year until Week 6, having won it all the previous season. However, speaking to RG, Foles suggested that despite the current team’s hot start to the season, they’ll need to up their game in the coming weeks.
“I would say right now they’re going to be one of the top favorites, but I would say with how they’re playing right now, they have a lot to clean up before they’re that team,” he said.
“They really got to dial in the offense and make that offense more dangerous. There’s other teams out there. Every team has an issue right now, even the Buffalo Bills. Defensively, they’re still giving up points. I’m a firm believer, throughout the first six-to-eight games of the season, you’re building your identity in the locker room as a coaching staff, as a team,” he added.

However, despite believing the team isn’t playing to its full potential, Foles isn’t concerned. The former Eagle stated that early wrinkles are natural and that the team should be happy with what it has achieved through three weeks.
“It doesn’t worry me three games into a season; they found a way to win three games,” he stated. “That’s great. I also think that they haven’t played clean, so they’re going to the facility, probably not happy. They’ve won and they’re excited, and you celebrate winning in the NFL because it’s so difficult.”
The Eagles will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, a dangerous NFC contender with one of the NFL’s most in-form quarterbacks, Baker Mayfield. However, Mayfield will be without his star receiver after Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s Week 3 win over the New York Jets.
The Eagles have beaten three playoff contenders to start the year, and will be confident of claiming another scalp in Week 4.
