Super Bowl Champion WR Accuses Dak Prescott of ‘Quitting’ on Dallas Cowboys

    Published on

One former Packers WR accused Dak Prescott of "quitting" on his teammates after the QB's hamstring injury and his recovery set for four weeks.

Dak Prescott will potentially land on the injured reserve list and is scheduled to miss at least four weeks. The Dallas Cowboys had already been having a less-than-stellar season, this news dampened the mood further.

However, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones has put fuel to the fire, suggesting that the QB has essentially quit on the team.

James Jones Highlights His Issues With the Dak Prescott Situation

The 2011 Super Bowl winner, during his appearance on FS1’s The Facility, shocked the football world with his accusations. “Dak quit,” he said as his fellow co-hosts held on to their seats. “It’s crazy because it ain’t even funny. My man quitting on these dudes. I’ve had a hamstring [injury] plenty of times. I’m back the next week.”

“I’m not Tyreek Hill. It don’t take four weeks to heal from a hamstring. You’re not Lamar Jackson. You’re not Jalen Hurts. You’re not running. Where are you running to?”

The 40-year-old further highlighted that in light of Prescott’s sideline interaction during the game against the Atlanta Falcons, his injury timeline makes sense. “With the way the season is going right now, we heard him on the sideline what he said. Dak is quitting on these boys,” added Jones.

However, a few days later, when the news came out about the severity of Prescott’s injury, Jones quickly changed his tune. “That’s my fault…seeing the reports of how bad it might be…that’s tough! God Speed Dak” he posted on social media.

The severity he is referring to is a report released by NFL Network’s Jane Slater that said Prescott potentially suffered a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, which is partially torn off the bone. That kind of injury typically takes more than a four-week recovery.

Prescott has struggled this season. Although he has been in the top 11 every year of his career in PFN’s proprietary QB+ metric, 2024 has easily been his worst so far. After getting a new contract this offseason and becoming the NFL’s highest-paid player, Prescott has plummeted to 25th in performance this year, averaging a below-C grade.

In Week 9, he finished with a D+ grade before suffering his hamstring injury, marking the fifth time this year he finished below C. To put that into context, Prescott’s name is being included with the likes of Daniel Jones, Caleb Williams, and Andy Dalton.

Jerry Jones Discusses Cooper Rush After Prescott’s Injury

During his appearance on the 105.3 The Fan radio show, the Cowboys owner declared the seriousness of Prescott’s injury. However, he also earmarked the path forward for them as well. That being the 30-year-old Cooper Rush.

Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Dak Prescott (4) and Cooper Rush (10) look to take the field against the Buffalo Bills.

“There’s no question that Dak’s injury is a setback,” Jones said. “But we’ve seen Cooper do it. We know what we need to do, the strategies on the offense. We just need to come together game by game, use all of our players to the extent that it helps us.”

The Cowboys are now 3-5 and are sitting in third place in the NFC East. With little hope of catching the Washington Commanders or Philadelphia Eagles for the division title, a Wild Card slot is Dallas’ only playoff path. Even then, PFN’s Playoff Predictor gives Mike McCarthy and Co. just a 4.0% chance of earning a postseason berth.

Rush has been on the Cowboys’ roster since 2017, barring one season in 2020 with the New York Giants. He has stepped on the field for 30 games, six of which have been starts for the Cowboys. Rush has 1,786 yards under his belt for nine touchdowns.
