‘This Is His League’: 2-Time Super Bowl Champion Takes Issue With Patrick Mahomes Being Ranked As 4th-Best QB

Patrick Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to unprecedented success since taking over as the starting quarterback in 2018. He ended the franchise’s 50-year title drought and has guided the team to five Super Bowl appearances in the last six seasons, winning three.

Despite his dominance, one news outlet ranked Mahomes as only the fourth-best quarterback heading into the 2025 season, a take that drew sharp criticism from a two-time Super Bowl champion.

Former Super Bowl Champion Questions Patrick Mahomes’ No. 4 Spot in QB Rankings

Mahomes spearheaded the Chiefs to another Super Bowl last season after a 15-2 record in the regular season. He was just one win away from a historic three-peat. Although the Eagles spoiled the party for the six-time Pro Bowler, Mahomes did a great job throughout the season.

The Chiefs’ star quarterback was ranked as the fourth-best QB by NBC’s Chris Simms in the league ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Former Eagles running back wasn’t pleased with the NFL analyst’s opinion.

Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy took shots at those ranking during an appearance on “The Facility” show. He argued and defended Mahomes, citing his success ever since the 29-year-old became a starter.

“This is crazy! I think Patrick Mahomes is clearly better than all the other quarterbacks…. there’s one quarterback, since he stepped in as a starter, ‘Okay, I’m the starter. I’ve only seen an AFC Championship, that’s the worst I’ve seen, and the best I’ve seen is Super Bowl,'” he said.

McCoy added that how can anybody be better than Mahomes when the Chiefs’ QB always wins at the biggest stages and when all the money is on the table. He went on to say that Mahomes has beaten his opponents when they were at their best and the Chiefs were at their worst.

The former second-round pick also said that Mahomes beat them, even when he didn’t have the home advantage and even when they counted him out and doubted him.

“Forget the quarterback, this is his league and everybody knows that,” McCoy said.

Mahomes recorded 3,928 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions during the regular season last year. He added 679 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions across three postseason games.

After making just one start as a rookie, Mahomes broke out in his first full season as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, leading the team to a 12-4 record. Though the Chiefs fell short of the Super Bowl that year, Mahomes earned both MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors.

The following season, he led Kansas City to a Super Bowl victory. He later lost Super Bowl LV to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 season and was defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2021 AFC Championship Game.

Since then, Mahomes and the Chiefs have bounced back to win consecutive Super Bowls and came close to adding another title last season.
