2-Time Super Bowl Champion Boldly Claims Patrick Mahomes is Still ‘the Most Dominant Player’ in NFL

A former Super Bowl champion has labeled the Chiefs' star QB Patrick Mahomes as the most dominant player in the league.

Patrick Mahomes took the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback mantle in 2018 and turned it around for the franchise. He brought the Vince Lombardi trophy to Kansas City after 50 years and has led his side to five Super Bowl appearances in the last six years, winning three.

Mahomes fell just one step short of the unprecedented three-peat last season, with his team losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Recently, a two-time Super Bowl champion shared his take on the 29-year-old’s dominance in the NFL.

Two-time Super Bowl Champion Believes Patrick Mahomes Still Rules the NFL

Mahomes guided Kansas City to a 15-2 record in the regular season last year. He came very close to adding another Super Bowl ring to his collection after beating the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game.

During an episode of “The Facility” show, former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was asked if teams should still fear the Chiefs. McCoy was with the Chiefs when they won the Super Bowl in 2019, their first since 1969.

“Yeah, you should be worried,” McCoy said. “You know what’s funny, though, about this whole Chiefs team and how the world perceives the Chiefs nowadays, Patrick Mahomes and all that, is he the best quarterback, is he not, all these things it’s like why shouldn’t we fear the Chiefs, all they do is go to the Super Bowl.” (0:20)

“Last year, they were up for a three-peat and guess what, that wasn’t even their best season. They didn’t play great last year, and they were still up for a three-peat,” he added.

McCoy added that everybody knows that the Chiefs’ defense plays well, and the doubt about fearing the Chiefs revolves more around whether they should fear the team’s offense.

“Is Patrick Mahomes still the most dominant or best player in the league? Yes. At his worst, the AFC Championship game. At his best, the Super Bowl. They’re only going to get better,” he said.

McCoy also said that Mahomes didn’t have his number one or number two wide receiver last year. He had to make his number three his number one, and not many QBs can thrive in that situation.

Mahomes recorded 3,928 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions during the regular season last year. He added 679 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions across three postseason games.

After making just one start as a rookie, Patrick Mahomes exploded in his first full season as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, guiding the team to a 12-4 record. While Kansas City fell short of the Super Bowl, Mahomes took home both NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors.

He followed that up by leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title the next year. Though Mahomes lost Super Bowl LV to Tom Brady’s Buccaneers and fell to the Bengals in the 2021 AFC title game, Mahomes has since rebounded by winning back-to-back Super Bowls and nearly adding another last season.
