As the 2025 NFL Draft class takes the field with their new teams, the next wave of future pros is already focused on the 2026 draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers will host next year’s event and could have plenty of picks to use.
In a recent three-round 2026 NFL mock draft from PFSN’s Ian Cummings, Pittsburgh doesn’t wait long to find its quarterback of the future.

Pittsburgh Steelers Take Drew Allar in 2026 NFL Mock Draft
The Steelers have taken heat from fans for their quiet approach to the quarterback position. After passing on quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft and making only short-term moves in free agency, questions remain.
Aaron Rodgers is expected to be under center in 2025. But his commitment level has left fans unsure. Rodgers has avoided giving clear answers about his future, and many in Pittsburgh are ready to move on. In Cummings’ mock draft, the Steelers do just that.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers chose to pass on all of the early-round QBs in the 2025 NFL Draft, and now they’re still in limbo with Aaron Rodgers,” Cummings wrote. “2026 will be the QB cycle for Pittsburgh, and Drew Allar is a compelling in-state prospect.”
Allar Offers Tools and Upside
Allar has been on the radar since he arrived at Penn State. He’s a former five-star recruit with size, arm strength, and mobility. Cummings highlighted the quarterback’s ability to move the pocket and make throws from different angles.
With Drew Allar, you have a field general under center. Can make pre-snap checks and cue motions. You can execute action rollouts and move the pocket with him. And his easy velocity and angle freedom enables him to layer quick-hitting passes when in-rhythm. pic.twitter.com/eV41kNVbat

Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 238 pounds, Allar has shown steady improvement in college. He returned for his senior year after putting together a strong 2024 season. Over the past two seasons, he has thrown 49 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. In 2023, he was especially efficient, tossing 25 touchdowns with only two picks on 389 attempts.
What Allar Could Bring to Pittsburgh
Allar’s skill set fits what modern NFL teams look for. He’s comfortable in the pocket, can extend plays with his legs, and has the strength to drive the ball downfield. While not known as a running quarterback, he added 302 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground in 2024. His overall production includes 53 career passing touchdowns and 11 rushing scores.

If he continues to develop in 2025, Allar could be in the conversation to go No. 1 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would be fitting for a team hosting the event and looking to start fresh at quarterback.
Looking Ahead to 2026
With Rodgers likely nearing the end of his career, Pittsburgh needs to think long-term. The 2026 draft could give the Steelers a shot at a young leader who can grow with the rest of the team.
While it’s still early, Allar checks a lot of boxes. His size, arm, and experience at a Big Ten program make him a top name to watch as the college football season begins. If he takes the next step in 2025, the Steelers may not hesitate to call his name on night one next April in Pittsburgh.
