Steelers Insider Hints at Aaron Rodgers Potentially Reuniting With 27-TD Playmaker in Pittsburgh

Aaron Rodgers is in the Steel City, and he might be joined by a familiar face. The Pittsburgh Steelers completed their QB room by signing Rodgers for the 2025 NFL season, after leaving behind the highly touted prospect Shedeur Sanders in the NFL Draft.

Rodgers isn’t just bringing his cannon arm and veteran swagger to Pittsburgh. Rumors are swirling about Rodgers reuniting with one of his go-to guys from Green Bay and New York. According to Steelers insider Mike DeFabo, the front office is seriously eyeing one of Rodgers’ longtime wideouts as a potential weapon to plug into their offense this season.

Could a Familiar Face Help Aaron Rodgers Revive the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Passing Game?

The Steelers, along with Steeler Nation, had their eyes on hotshot QB prospect Shedeur Sanders heading into the 2025 draft. But Pittsburgh shocked the boards, passing on a quarterback until late. They made the real splash by inking Rodgers instead of rolling the dice on a rookie.

Fans questioned how effective Rodgers would be, given the team’s recent history of signing underwhelming receivers. As reported in The Athletic, DeFabo revealed that the front office is exploring every option, including potentially targeting Allen Lazard, who has 27 career touchdown catches, to bolster the receiving corps.

“There’s been plenty of smoke about a possible trade, so much so that it’s clear GM Omar Khan is doing his due diligence to explore all options. Allen Lazard, in particular, still feels like an obvious target, given his history with Rodgers,” said DeFabo.

Rodgers and Lazard first teamed up in Green Bay after Lazard joined the Packers in 2018. The two built chemistry, linking up for clutch plays and highlight moments, even if a Super Bowl ring remained out of reach.

Their camaraderie continued in New York after both were traded to the Jets in 2023. However, Lazard struggled after Rodgers missed most of the season with a torn Achilles. His form improved once Rodgers returned the following year.

Rodgers has praised Lazard several times. After a 2019 win over the Lions, where Lazard led the Packers to a 23-22 victory, Rodgers said, “For a young guy to do that, how can you not have confidence in that?”

With Rodgers possibly nearing the end of his career, it will be interesting to see if he joins forces with Lazard again, this time in Pittsburgh. Steelers fans might expect big things if the duo returns to the field together for a third NFL team.
