Steelers Star Cam Heyward Pours Cold Water on T.J Watt Trade Rumors With Blunt Response Amid EDGE’s Contract Drama

Cam Heyward weighed in on T.J. Watt’s contract situation, emphasizing the importance of keeping key pieces in place as uncertainty looms.

The contract clock is ticking in Pittsburgh, and it’s not just about dollars and cents. T.J. Watt is entering the final year of his deal, and with extension talks stalled, one of the NFL’s most dominant pass rushers faces an uncertain future with the only team he’s ever known.

According to reports, Watt wants to overtake Myles Garrett, who signed a $160 million contract and averages $40 million annually, as the highest-paid defensive player in the league. The stakes couldn’t be higher with Watt’s 2025 salary of $21.05 million sitting unguaranteed, making his future in Pittsburgh far less secure than teammates and supporters would prefer.

Cam Heyward Speaks Up on T.J. Watt Contract Dispute

Meanwhile, whispers of a potential holdout and even trade rumors have started circulating around the Steel City. However, longtime teammate and close friend Cam Heyward isn’t having any of that talk.

Speaking candidly on “The Rich Eisen Show”, Heyward made it clear just how much Watt means to him and the team.

“We’ve talked, but we don’t really talk about contracts,” Heyward said. “But man, that’s my brother. I want that dude to get paid what he deserves. That dude is one of the most fierce and best players in our league. He’s respected throughout the league… I hope this year is not the last time we play together.”

Heyward’s remarks went beyond simple veteran support. Years of fighting alongside one another in the trenches have created a strong bond between them.

For seasons, rival offenses have feared the explosive and disruptive tandem that the two have established as the cornerstones of the Steelers’ defense. Off the field, their relationship runs even deeper, with Watt once comparing them to “professional brothers.”

What Does Heyward Want Most for His Teammate?

While the Steelers aren’t actively shopping Watt, reports suggest they’re also not completely ruling out a trade if negotiations stall. That possibility has left fans anxious and teammates like Heyward hoping it doesn’t come to that.

“I just want to see that guy continue to be a Pittsburgh Steeler,” Heyward added. “We’ve created a lot of havoc together, and I just want to see that guy continue to be a Pittsburgh Steeler and be one hell of a guy.”

The Steelers have a window of opportunity to win right now. This year could be historic because Aaron Rodgers is spearheading the offense, and everything is coming together.

For the team to capitalize on that opportunity, Watt must be on the field and not just watching from the sidelines. According to Heyward, losing him is not an option, and he doesn’t hesitate to express it publicly.
