Antonio Brown is a Pittsburgh Steelers legend. Throughout his nine seasons at Pittsburgh, he totaled 837 receptions for 11,207 yards and 74 touchdowns in the regular season, while earning four All-Pro selections and seven trips to the Pro Bowl. He and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had terrific chemistry on the field, but now there appears to be some tension between the two.
Roethlisberger has yet to comment on the post, but the tension seemingly is still there. While on the field, fans were unable to see any disconnect between Roethlisberger and Brown. However, it seems like things were festering for a while before the Steelers traded Brown to the then-Oakland Raiders ahead of the 2019 NFL season.
What Did Antonio Brown Say About Ben Roethlisberger?
Brown has been unapologetic on social media for years now, and Roethlisberger has been his most recent target. Brown tweeted about his former quarterback and did not hold back about his feelings writing “Ben Roethisberger Still MAD His sister Suck my d*** 2011 Pro bowl #CTESPN.”
This post seemingly is referring to an alleged relationship between the quarterback’s sister, Carlee, and Brown. There is no evidence that the relationship happened, as it was never public. Likewise, Brown has been known to take shots at people without any evidence of something happening.
There have been instances where fans have been able to see some of the clashing of personalities between the quarterback and wide receiver from more than a decade ago. On an episode of the “Keep Hammering Collective Podcast,” former long snapper Kameron Canaday explained how the two had different personalities during his time with the Steelers.
“[Brown] had a motor, he didn’t slow down, and he was like that for 16 weeks, and I think that’s probably why him and Ben [Roethlisberger] probably got into it a little bit, because Ben had his two Super Bowls, and he got banged up, and Ben would sit out a little bit. He just liked to take it easy until Sunday.”
Canaday continued to make it appear as if the lack of practice reps would make Brown feel like it would hurt him in games.
Brown Filed for Bankruptcy
Brown collected a lot of money throughout his 12-year NFL career, but players falling on difficult financial times is unfortunately more normal than it should be. During Super Bowl weekend, he appeared on the “One Night with Steiny” podcast and discussed how in last May he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with Yahoo Sports transcribing the quotes.
“I think I made $100 million, if you count off the field and everything. I just filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, you feel me? I spent all of it. I blew all my money. I blew everything.”
The Times Union reported that Brown had more than $100,000 in credit card debt and has been unable to pay at least three civil suits he lost, which each of them costing him six figures.
He also purchased 47.5% of the Albany Empire of the National Arena League in March 2023. However, the team would be kicked out of the league for Brown failing to pay a $1,000 fine. In addition, coaches and staff were not paid, but a lawsuit regarding that was never issued.
The former wide receiver has also entered the music industry, attempting a rap career and creating his own media network, CTESPNNetwork. With that media network, Brown has a website where he sells apparel and hosts podcasts.
