Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has opened up on the possibility of France forward Kylian Mbappé breaking one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible Los Blancos records in the future.
Mbappé, 26, is currently on an excellent run of form, leading his club from the front with numerous goals. Building on his form from the second half of the 2024-25 season, Mbappé has scored a staggering 25 goals in just 20 appearances across competitions for his side in the ongoing 2025-26 season.
Xabi Alonso Backs Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé to Emulate Cristiano Ronaldo
Due to his clinical finishing and guileful movement, Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé is inching closer to a club record held by Cristiano Ronaldo. He has bagged 55 goals for Xabi Alonso’s outfit in 2025 and needs five goals more to break Ronaldo’s annual milestone that was set in 2013.
“Kylian is on his way to making history at Real Madrid, just like Cristiano did. With his ambition and statistics, he’s among a chosen few. Working with him on a daily basis is great,” Alonso said ahead of Los Blancos’ La Liga home encounter against Celta Vigo on Sunday, December 7 (via GOAL).
Alonso, who played alongside Ronaldo 208 times at Real Madrid, continued, “His desire to influence others, his contagious energy, is something he shares with Cristiano. There, I see similarities. Cristiano is Cristiano, and Kylian is Kylian. They’re both exceptional. We’re very lucky to have Kylian, and we have to make the most of it.”

With both Alexander-Arnold and Daniel Carvajal injured, Xabi Alonso claimed that Federico Valverde could deputize at right-back against Celta Vigo on Sunday.
“We’ll have to assess what decision we take, but there are other options. Fede always puts the team first… I remember great games he’s had against Barcelona, Juventus. He’s generous and wants to help the team. It was a good game, complete, an all-round [performance]. Now we want to find consistency,” the former Bayer Leverkusen manager said (via GOAL).
Valverde, 27, has started 17 of his 19 total appearances for Real Madrid this season.
